Ok so my OH works 40 hours a week bringing home about £250 a week. I was looking at going back to work 2 days a week as my maternity ends this week...but the thing is by the time I take out petrol money (work is 18 miles away) I won't be earning that much. So was thinking I will be better off being a SAHM. We currently get £70pw in WTC and CTC. Just wanted to see what everyone else gets to see how much ours is likely to go up by if I stop working.
Hope that made sense :)

Thanks x

We get 22 a week WTC and 222 CTC a month:
I work 24 hours a week earning 140 a week , my partner earns 200 a week

If you look at entitledto.com they will tell you what you would be eligible to get with any UK benefits :D

I work 23 hour pw - take home £606 a month, OH works 45 hours pw and takes home £1170 after tax

So joint income of £1776 and we get £75 a month ctc and are not entitled to wtc

IS Child Tax Credits and Child Benefits a different thing??? and also can you claim both at the same time if they are different??

I don't get WTC but applied for CTC and so far they have given me one payment of £1.49!
Still waiting for my entitlement letter but when I called I was told I would get about £10 a week, seems they have changed their minds and given me £1.49 instead!

It used to be that you could get child benefit regardless of your income although the rules have changed now. As long as you or your partner earn less than £40k individually you will still get child benefit - it's a fixed amount of approx £20 for your first child and £13 for each additional child.
Working tax credits (WTC) and child tax credits (CTC) are dependent upon your income levels. Entitlement to WTC usually stops when you earn over £17k although this depends on your family size and whether you pay childcare.
Child tax credits can be claimed if you earn under £40k although the higher your earnings the less you receive. HTH

I was given a book at the doctors about money and as ive been worried about being able to go back to work, the book said if i go back to work (say 2 or 3 days a week) that i can get working tax credits to cover the cost of, say nursery for them 3 days.... Is this right?! if so it would be amazingly helpful

I work 16 hours per week and bring home £100 per week, DH is a gardener and brings home around £300 per week, which looks good on paper but after taking out what is needed for bills, we don't have much left over. I get £50 per month WTC.

does anyone know how much a single mother who is unemployed will get? starting to worry about money when the baby's here :(

tbh from what ive seen your alot better off being a single parent than if your not.

My friend gets more a month than i get working a full time job.

Lyndz - i thought WTC are meant to pay 70% of your child care costs, upto £150??!

You are better off working a part time job (over 16 hours) and being single than working full time & having a partner these days :/

I know its so sad that they do it like that, gives such a bad image for young girls who know they will be better off by doing that

Well i am the same as you and i get £67 a week Income Support.

£130 per month Child Benefit and £106 Child Tax Credits (2 kids) you will get half that.

:( wow that's so low

I know you guys don't have to pay full rent but I certainly couldn't cope on that.

We currently get
£200 a week james wages
£128.75 maternity allowance a week
£222 a month CTC
£25 a week WTC
£12 a week paper round xD
£81.60 a month CB

but we still struggle :/

OH gets on average £1,200 a month on a crap month or up to £1,800 on a good month. Based on his income we get £51.87 a week WTC & £81.00 a month CB as it is from the same department really. We worked out we are better off I am a SAHM untill LO is 1 due to childcare costs etc x

i thought wtc is only for low income?? becca my bf is 1200 ish a month n i thought wasnt entitled to wtc :-(

I called up told them his earnings & they told us we'd receive £51.87 a week, you should receive it hun, call them up again x

I have just been told that as a single mother to 3 children I will get £157 p/w ctc. I have submitted a claim for income support but don't know what the amount will be and I get £188 a month child benefit. I hope they hurry up and process it as they have stopped all payments until my new claim as a lone parent is sorted. I should be entitled to full housing benefit but the maximum they pay is £550 and you can't get a house for less then £700 in my current area so will probably have to move as my husband has already proved that I can't rely on him for anything so doubtful he will pay the difference.
