Being a teenager is hard enough without having to worry about your weight but the case is that more teenagers are overweight or obese than ever before. This is a serious subject. So let’s firstly take a look at the causes of so many teens being overweight or obese.
The cause of teen obesity is generally lack of physical activity combined with unhealthy eating habits. The society we live in now means we spend hours sitting in front of computers, video games, or televisions. One survey showed 43% of adolescents watched more than two hours of television per day.
So what can we try and do to prevent this? Eat healthy and cut out the junk food and fast food. This may be thinking that’s obvious but how can you get a teenager to stop eating such foods when that’s all teenagers seem to eat nowadays. Well this problem I have to say is down to the parents in most cases who buy the crisps, biscuits and other such treats. Step 1 stop buying it and try healthy foods. This doesn’t mean your going to be eating lettuce for the rest of your days there are plenty of healthy and yummy recipes out there. One of the causes of obesity is excess intake of carbohydrates. One of the best weight loss diet for teens is the vegetable diet. Replace carbohydrates with naturally occuring proteins.

Also do regular exercise. It’s important to stay active throughout the day. Teens should involve themselves in many activities throughout the day, which require them to be active. And, avoid watching TV or using computer for longer durations. Why not make it a family thing for example on the weekend go bike riding or even just walking as a family.

So those are just a couple of things to help you on the path, eating healthy and exercise. It really is important some of the effects of teen obesity can be prevented by this method. Obesity can lead to chronic diseases such as heart problems, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure. It can also affect a person’s physical ability to a great extent. An obese person would find it difficult to walk, run and do tasks which involve physical effort. Obesity can make a person depressed. It can also cause psychological distress, isolation, low self-esteem, and negative self-image.
