Test results time scales?

Hi all,
This is my first post but I have been having a nosey for a while just never plucked up the corauge to post!
I was just wondering if anyone knew how long a semen test takes for the results to come back?
I had a CD21 test done on the 6th May and they have come back normal.
My DH did a test sample last week and I have been told to go back once we have them back.
Whats the next step after this? Does anyone know?

Hi Shelley

I think it depends on if you're seeing a FS or yrou family doctor. My FS does the analysis right there in the office (they have a lab) - so resutls are available within 24 hours. but if they have to be sent out I think it can take anywhere up to 2 weeks - here in Canada anyway. Are you seeing a FS?

I have just completed all of my initial consultation tests with my FS: intravginal ultrasound, ultrasounds, blods, CD 21 bloods, sonohystogram, endometrial biopsy. My DH has brought in one semen sample, but we don't get the results because he has to do two - then we will recieve all the results in one appt....

Hi hun,
It can take 7-10 days for a sperm sample to come back.
I have had my bloods done too on my last cycle, while my oh had 2 sperm samples done.
We ent back to the doctors just over a week later for the results.
Hope they come back ok!

We are just seeing the family doctors at the moment so we will wait and see how they come back its a week today so will give them a ring tommorrow to see if the results are back in!

Hey Shelley

We went through all of this last Summer.

I had my bloods done with normal result - DH's sperm tests came back within 5 working days and he was able to contact the doctor and get the results over the phone.

Unfortunately for us it meant a referral to the FS and our GP sent a letter and we heard from the clinic within 3 weeks. That letter contained an appt for 3 months later but we harassed them mercilessly and got bumped up to a cancellation appt 3 weeks later!

Fingers crossed that the results are all good for the pair of you

Good luck Our last 2 took 5 days and we got results by phone, weve just done another today and were anticipating another 5-6 day wait

Ours were the same, we left it a week to make sure and they told DH over the phone. Hope you go on okay, xxx

Hi Shelley,

My bloods took a week - I called up for the result.
You generally get a quicker answer if you call up, rather than wait a couple more days for the letter.

The SA took less than a week. Handed in on Wed, back by Monday, but letter didn't get here til Wednesday.

Next step... well, I guess it's different for everyone, and different GPs, but on the second SA result, our GP referred us (male factor). We got a letter with online booking details (except the online thing isn't up yet, so we had to call the hospital anyway) 10 days later. Our first appointment with the FS is end of August. That's a 13/14 week wait, NOT the 5 or 6 that was advertised on the hospital website.
