Hi ladies

Jago William arrived on Thursday 21st March at 6.01pm, weighing a chunky 9lbs1oz!

Here's the full story if you're interested?
I was due a week ago (or three days ago by my dates) and the consultant was keen to induce me at 40 weeks, due to my advancing years (41!!). I managed to convince them there was no rush and I was monitored. Baby was doing well in there but the Drs were getting twitchy so we compromised on induction at 41 weeks. Of course I was hoping to go earlier naturally, but that didn't happen. I was dreading induction as I was worried about the increased pain and potential interventions. A long way from the home birth we'd planned.

So we had the call from the hospital at 8.30am and were in by 9.30. I was monitored then they inserted a pessary at 11am. I had a Bishops Score of 4, not great but at least starting. At 11.30 we left the hospital and drove home to pick up our coats as we'd forgotten them and were allowed to go for a walk near the hospital. It was very surreal going home shortly afterwards! But our daughter was out with my parents so we didn't confuse her, as we'd only said goodbye a few hours previously. I had a few tightenings in the car, but nothing much. Once back at the hospital, we walked up the road to the pub and had pizza for lunch! My tightenings were getting a bit stronger there but I could talk and eat and laugh through them. Back at the hospital they stepped up a bit and I was looking forward to finding out what was happening at the 3pm check up.

Disappointingly, the midwife simply listened to baby's heartbeat and said she'd be back at 7.30pm for our next check!! I told her I was having some cramps but she didn't want to know . Things got a bit more intense then, with me needing to stand and sway through the contractions, making very odd noises I recall! Around 4.40pm I asked my oh to go and tell the midwife that things were stepping up a bit. Luckily my oh trusted me and he persuaded the midwife to come , even though she was insisting it'd be hours yet. When she came into the room and saw me, she realised things had progressed somewhat! I was starting to want to push! She checked me quickly, declared I was only 4cm and I did feel like I was making a bit of a fuss over nothing! Until my waters suddenly went and I needed to push badly!! Panic stations!! They transferred me quickly down to the delivery suite, shouting at me not to push! I was moaning and groaning and asking them up make me decent as I wasn't really covered up. Lord knows I must've scared some poor people in for their scans as we passed them!!

Once in the delivery suite I had the hard job of climbing onto the bed, from the one I was on, a real struggle! Then I got my head down and got on with it! I barely registered what the poor midwife looked like, but she was lovely! She was 33 weeks pregnant herself but still supported me, holding my leg when I needed it and generally encouraging me. My oh was fantastic and kept urging me on and giving me water. After an hour I really felt like I could push no more, baby didn't feel like he was shifting and my back was really hurting me. I could hear the midwife getting a little concerned, saying one more push and we'll see what's happening. With that, Jago shocked us all by shooting out from really high up!! The midwife grabbed her gloves and guided him out carefully, great job as I only have one tiny tear, mostly because his hand was by his face. Once he was out, the pressure eased and up he came to meet us! It was so wonderful to see him finally! He was quite heavy but seems tiny compared to our sturdy toddler! Time in active labour recorded as 1hr 16mins!!

He's fed well during the night, and had a few poos, and I've learnt how to clean a boy nappy rather than one with girl bits!! I've stayed overnight as he was born in the evening and they wanted to observe us for 6 hours, there was a little meconium in the waters. Hopefully we will be home, introducing him to his big sister mid morning!!

Induction wasn't as bad as I'd feared, quick and full on rather than long and drawn out. It was manageable and I really don't feel too battered afterwards. I'm looking forward to putting my feet up at home and getting to know this little man!

Sorry if this is a bit long, I'm sitting in the ward feeding and it seemed like a good chance to go through what happened! I hope I've not put anyone off! Good luck for those of you soon to go through it. It is so worth it, I'm thrilled!

And his name: Jago is Cornish for James. My family is Cornish and James is my husband's middle name and his late father's name. William was my darling grandfather.

Thanks so much for all the support you ladies have given me! See you in Baby Club! Xxx
