So, my gorgeous daughter Isabelle Evelyn arrived on the 19th December, slightly earlier than expected as I was booked in for a c-section on the 21st due to her being breech.
I went into labour on the morning of the 19th, and to be honest it took me a couple of hours to realise that the pains I was experiencing were in fact labour. By the time it was clear they were coming every 10-15 minutes, so we rang the hospital to let them know and were advised to come in ASAP.
Unfortunately this was one of the worst days of the year weather wise, and what should have been a straighforward 10 minute drive to our hospital turned into 45 minutes through an absolute blizzard, with us actually thinking at a couple of points that we might not make it.
Fortunately, we did get there and once on the labour ward I was examined and we discovered I was already 5 cm dilated, and my contractions were now every 4 minuntes or so. The next couple of hours are a bit of a blur, as I was taken to theatre and had the spinal block administered. I have to admit I hated every minute as I'm terrified of hospitals and operations, but to give credit to the staff they were amazing, and made the whole experience as pleasant as I imagine section can be.
Our little girl was born at 16.31pm and weighed 7lb exactly. As I was still very shaky from the whole shock of having a section she was handed to her daddy to cuddle while I was stitched up, which in retrospect was probably the best thing as they have bonded so well, and she clearly adores him!
Once I was stiched and back in recovery she was passed to me and went straight onto my breast for a feed, and we've never looked back since. She and I love breastfeeding, we get to snuggle up together and ignore the rest of the world for a few special minutes every day - bliss!
