Seriously ladies, you've got to check this out.

This pediatrician has done lots of studies on consoling infants. He's got the bases covered, and he's done the science.

www.thehappiestbaby.com

He notes that in societies where babies are worn and are with mama 24/7 colic is virtually unheard of. And those babies hardly ever cry. He doesn't necessarily promote exclusive wearing, he understands that moms and dads have things they have to do, but he offers some great techniques for calming babies.

Just food for thought.

I honestly never even heard of colic until I came to North America.

I'm a proud owner of two slings. I love carrying my baby with me and get stopped regularly by people asking me what it is. I thought all people knew about slings?! I grew up in South Africa where the African people also tend to wear their children on their back or front wrapped with a blanket. It creates a very contented baby.

So if we carry our babies more often, they won't cry as much?
I hope it works!

Isabella hates being in her ring sling. I need to find a different one, because she loves laying against my chest more upright than her sling allows.

I second that this book is a must read! I absolutely live by everything that he says in it!

get a moby... sharlotte hates the ring too... but as you can see, loves the moby. Looks complicated, but if you put it on in the morning, you can take her in and out all day as you need to.

ohh I really want one of these Moby wraps. I have a hotsling now and its okay but these look safer, sometimes I feel like Noah will fall out!

I love it... gets them all snug up against you...

I spent an hour and a half in walmart with her in the moby the other day... WAY better than hauling the carseat in... and she gets used to being worn, I can keep her there when she gets more mobile.

I watched the video on thwe website last night and tried the 'Sh' thingy when Seth was crying and it worked in seconds. I am definately buying this book!

Its a quick read, and he has a DVD too if you like that option :)

I keep getting on my soapbox on here about this stuff, glad to hear someone is going to have a better time with their baby very soon :)

I'm selling that dvd on ebay now!

Just sold my ring sling, we prefer mei tai's and our moby.

I wear Indi for at least 4 hours a day, it's where he has his naps and I can get on with what I need to do... yesterday I was delivering leaflets for 2 hours & he slept the whole time... & yes, my back and shoulders were fine!

I have a close baby carrier - same idea as a moby... It really is fantastic and as you can see, Anna loves it, too! hehe

My mother and her partner also have one - both them and their baby love it, as well!

Lily (my baby sister) is the most content baby ever - in fact it's quite eary; I've NEVER heard her make even a slightly unhappy sound - just talking and giggling! It's incredible. Anna is worn a lot (I wear her to go out, to get her off to sleep if she is ever fussy, to do the housework, to hang the washing out etc...) and she comes a close second for most contented baby! She sleeps all night (from 10pm - 10am), I've never known a baby to giggle as much as Anna does  and she has only ever cried when having painful medical procedures done (and when her canine was coming through).

I thought this might have something to do with being close to me so much but didn't know for sure and that's not why I bought my sling - It's just more convenient than a buggy (we don't have one of those!) and it means I can hold her AND get on with stuff that needs doing. I also baught it as an alternative to a buggy as my husband is confined to a wheelchair and I couldn't push both of them at once - and a sling was a darn sight cheaper than an electric wheelchair (or a buggy come to think of it!) lol

Thinking about it, I doubt it is a coincidence that Anna has been worn so much and is so content... I now feel quite proud to be a member of the baby-wearing club! Thanks for that link Margerle! :D

PS: Sorry for the picture over-load  Just me showing off! lol

I'm gonna go get my moby and try it out! I've been too scared to try it, it looks so complicated. You've all inspired me!

Holldoll, this is a great youtube video explaining it in great detail.

It's very simple to use. I think it's even more simple than the ring sling (maybe not as simple though as a baby bjorn or one of those carriers.)

 That looks so complex compared to my close baby carrier!

I'll make a video tomorrow for your girls of how to put that one on and put baby in...

Moby's are from a town not too far from me. I tried it tonight, it was much simpler than I thought it would be. That was a good video too! Thanks for posting!

i ordered a mpby lastnight and ordered the happiest baby and the happiest toddler this morning.

thanks for the post Mama Boob!
