After more than a week of latent labour and a tiresome time, he's finally here. Weighing 6lb 14 and 51cms long, Leonidus Connor arrived on the 18th of September. The day before his due date!! I'm laying in bed (still at the hospital), little one is dozing off to sleep, so I thought I'd finally update.
As some of you know, I was having stop and start labour for over a week. I can't even remember the exact amount of days anymore as the past 72 hours are somewhat of a blur. My contractions started at 7:30pm on the 16th of September at 10 minutes apart. I managed to doze off through the breaks of most and slept through the mild ones. The next morning they were irregular but closer together and definitely weren't stopping. Once they got to about 2-3 minutes apart, I was suspicious and didn't want to get my hopes up but I called my midwife anyway. We arranged for me to come in and get checked at around 3pm. When I arrived, I was the same as I had been the day before when I had recieved my sweep. 2cm and still 2cm long cervix. She managed to stretch me to 3cm then sent me home and I had to say, I was guttered. By 8:30 that night I could no longer talk through the contractions, so off we went to the hospital. I was still 3cm!! Up to early labour ward and I laboured all through the night with contractions every 2 minutes. I was checked some time ridiculously early in the morning of the 18th (this is where things start to get really hazy) and I had only gotten to 4cm. I wa knackered, OH was knackered, poor LO was knackered and we were all plain fed up at this stage. I remember crying because I had made progress, although now I look back and had I of known what came next, I wouldn't have been so happy.
During daylight hours my midwife came up and checked me and I was still 4cm, so she said I should think about getting an epidural so my body can rest, otherwise I may have to consider other alternatives to get things moving along. I ended up agreeing to the one thing I didn't want during labour!! So we went down to labour ward about an hour later and I started on gas and air while we waited for the doctor. Time now held no meaning so I couldn't tell you what times were from here on in. I got my epidural and they broke my waters. I would have been happy, if the epidural had of worked! It did absolutely nothing, so the contractions were coming thick, fast and ridiculously strong. This carried on for what felt like forever until a man came back in and gave me a full spinal block. Just in time too! I was checked straight after and was 8cm. Within 5 minutes I was 10 and began pushing. Only now looking back do I realise from reading my notes, I was pushing for an hour and it took me just over 2 hours to get from 4-10!! Crazy. Even with a full spinal block, I pushed him out all on my own and only recieved a graze.
He's beautiful, I'm sore as sore can be and overwhelmed with emotions. I can't believe he's actually here!!
