After more than a week of latent labour and a tiresome time, he's finally here. Weighing 6lb 14 and 51cms long, Leonidus Connor arrived on the 18th of September. The day before his due date!! I'm laying in bed (still at the hospital), little one is dozing off to sleep, so I thought I'd finally update.
As some of you know, I was having stop and start labour for over a week. I can't even remember the exact amount of days anymore as the past 72 hours are somewhat of a blur. My contractions started at 7:30pm on the 16th of September at 10 minutes apart. I managed to doze off through the breaks of most and slept through the mild ones. The next morning they were irregular but closer together and definitely weren't stopping. Once they got to about 2-3 minutes apart, I was suspicious and didn't want to get my hopes up but I called my midwife anyway. We arranged for me to come in and get checked at around 3pm. When I arrived, I was the same as I had been the day before when I had recieved my sweep. 2cm and still 2cm long cervix. She managed to stretch me to 3cm then sent me home and I had to say, I was guttered. By 8:30 that night I could no longer talk through the contractions, so off we went to the hospital. I was still 3cm!! Up to early labour ward and I laboured all through the night with contractions every 2 minutes. I was checked some time ridiculously early in the morning of the 18th (this is where things start to get really hazy) and I had only gotten to 4cm. I wa knackered, OH was knackered, poor LO was knackered and we were all plain fed up at this stage. I remember crying because I had made progress, although now I look back and had I of known what came next, I wouldn't have been so happy.
During daylight hours my midwife came up and checked me and I was still 4cm, so she said I should think about getting an epidural so my body can rest, otherwise I may have to consider other alternatives to get things moving along. I ended up agreeing to the one thing I didn't want during labour!! So we went down to labour ward about an hour later and I started on gas and air while we waited for the doctor. Time now held no meaning so I couldn't tell you what times were from here on in. I got my epidural and they broke my waters. I would have been happy, if the epidural had of worked! It did absolutely nothing, so the contractions were coming thick, fast and ridiculously strong. This carried on for what felt like forever until a man came back in and gave me a full spinal block. Just in time too! I was checked straight after and was 8cm. Within 5 minutes I was 10 and began pushing. Only now looking back do I realise from reading my notes, I was pushing for an hour and it took me just over 2 hours to get from 4-10!! Crazy. Even with a full spinal block, I pushed him out all on my own and only recieved a graze.
He's beautiful, I'm sore as sore can be and overwhelmed with emotions. I can't believe he's actually here!!

Congrats hun, been stalking your last thread in third trimester I'm so happy for you.. I hope I have a safe delivery as well what a blessing xx

Thank you xo. I'm disappointed in myself that I ended up using and epidural (and more!) but I guess things could have gone a lot worse if I didn't! Best of luck for your delivery xoxo

Congratulations! It feels like forever for me still. I'm glad all went well! Enjoy your new little man! :)

Congratulations! So happy to read your update! :D I'm sure it feels sucky to have the one thing you didn't want in labour but at the end of the day you've got your little mandate and sound and that's all that matters. So pleased for you ^_^ and also secretly hoping that I might be in latent labour as I have some similar 'symptoms' to you :P

Congrats! I've been watching for an update! Glad it is going well, enjoy your little man!

Big congrats! I was waiting to hear some news and figured that you must be having your baby. :) Long labours suck big time (totally been there...) but it's over and you can now enjoy the best part yet-your beautiful little boy.

congrats on your beautiful baby boy!! and don't beat yourself up about the epidural, you were a trouper to last that long without it, even if the contractions weren't that bad by then, staying awake for 72 hours is enough to drain a man completely!!

you did so so well and i am so happy that you finally got your long awaited rainbow!!!

Thanks for sharing your birth story. I'm so soooo happy for you and glad everyone is alright. You're a very tough cookie going through all this.
Enjoy the time with your little one :hugs:

congrats!!

don't feel bad about the epidural! i think as another poster said you did amazing for being awake that long!

Been waiting for a birth story from you!
Congratulations :) x

Awwe, it will get better! :hugs: I found the first few weeks really tough with my newborn. Hormones are all over the place, you're suddenly majorly sleep deprived, up at all hours of the night, and life has suddenly shifted dramatically. Everyone adjusts differently but just know that it's very normal to have crazy stressful times In the early days and everything levels out eventually.

Yay congrats!!!!!!! Don't be disappointed and healthy baby + healthy momma = successful delivery and that's all that matters!!!! I'm so happy for you!

Yay! Congratulations! I was wondering how you were doing! (so I did a little stalking :winkwink:)
Enjoy the snuggles with your little boy <3
