I'm stuck on a conference call from 9-12 and calling the hosp on my mob. Hung up and called back now I'm 5th in the queue. WTF is going on?

Can I ask for some car related advice please ladies?

So I currently drive a 3 door 10 yr old fiesta, it's a struggle getting the girls in so god knows how I would manage with a third.
Well, last week Bob's brother came down and offered me his 15 yr old 1.4 honda as soon as he can get his frontera fixed. He said I can have the honda for free and the only thing wrong with it is the drivers electric window needs a new motor and putting back on the runner which Bob can do.
Well I thought that was brilliant.

Then the next day Bob's Grandad offered us a straight swap for his 2001 2.0 diesel Vauxhall Vectra. At first I declined the offer as I thought the insurance would be stupidly high but after checking that out, it turns out it's the same as I'm paying now.
Now I don't know what to do, the vectra will come with a years MOT as his grandad is putting it in on tuesday but I will have to tax it as it's currently on disabled persons tax. Also the interior is in pretty poor condition and will need a LOT of cleaning up. It is a nice size but I worry about jumping from a tiny 1.3 to a massive 2.0 engine.
If I take the Honda, it's a smaller car and I don't know how much tax and test it has but I get to keep my fiesta too and make a bit of money off of that, I could sell the fiesta and use the money to buy bits for the baby etc..
I only need a car until next March as when I get my inheritance I am going to be buy an MPV but up until then I don't know what to do.
 
Hmmm it's worth taking into account the amount of money it will cost to fuel the 2lt vectra too. The tax will be higher.

Money wise, I think the Honda makes more sense, my only reservation is if his brother will come through on the deal and by when...

Vectras are big cars so it will have more space... Bit you'll be paying for it in the running costs...
 
hmm I never thought of it that way, I just looked at the tax and it's quite a bit more than I'm paying now but the Honda is the same. I'm hoping his brother will come through on the promise but it wouldn't be the first time he's promised something that hasn't happened.
I know for a fact that his Grandad means what he says and would swap with us next week if we wanted.
Bob says that as the Vectra is diesel the engine size won't make a lot of difference to the mpg.

hmm, it's confusing, It feels strange because I don't want to say no to either of them as they are being so kind and offering them for free...
I think we need to wait until wednesday as thats when the frontera is going for it's MOT and see what happens from there.
 
Sounds sensible to me. I'm sure neither of them need an answer right now.

Can the civic fit three car seats in the back? Do they both have front passenger air bags? (incase you wanted baby in the front?)
 
My fiesta can fit 3 car seats in the back it's just the awkwardness of only having 3 doors thats the problem. The civic is bigger than my fiesta and it has 5 doors so it would be better for us.
Neither of the cars have front passenger airbags...
 
we weren't going to buy a new car until March, we were just going to make do with the fiesta until then but as these are being offered for free we don't want to turn both of them down lol
 
Just comes down to the running costs then really doesn't it! Lol

Fingers crossed the frontera passes it's MOT on Wednesday then chick!
 
I think you just need to consider the running costs of tax,fuel and insurance. Whichever is cheaper then I'd go for that :)
