The name Jasmine with different middle names or other??

Hey, my name is Jasmine!

Personally, I do not like being named Jasmine. Kids in high school told me I had a stripper name >_> or that I had a black girl name because I was the only white girl named Jasmine. Now, even though I'm older and people don't say those things anymore, I still feel like I have a stripper name just because everyone always told me I did. I was watching TV the other day and there was a stripper named Jasmine on some show. It didn't make me feel good.

I really like Ivy. It's a beautiful name. I think both names sound good with Jasmine, but I just personally prefer Ivy.

I like the idea of both Ivy & Ella together. Couldn't you hyphenate it? It think it would look nice as Jasmine Ivy-ella & then everybody wins :) xx

Thanks :) Not sure about the hyphenating 2 middle names, I know people do it if they are using 2 surnames but never heard any one that I've known doing it with middle names.

Well you have a lovely name Jasmine :D I understand about being called names at school over what name your called because I had it with my surname (maiden name) :( When I was looking up about the name Jasmine I saw on another forum that people thought it was a stripper/porn name and saying it was trashy but I think this was also in the USA which I see that is where you are from also, I don't think people think of the name Jasmine here in the UK as the same, well I hope not any way lol. I think you will always find people who have something to say about every name though.

My middle name is hyphenated :) it's Beatrice-rose after my two great grandparents fair enough though if it isn't your thing :) xx

My sons middle names are hyphenated, after both of his grandads, John-Paul

I just never heard of it before the hyphenated so that's why I'm not so sure if to go with it or not. I'm thinking about it though :)

I voted against Jasmine in the poll, and the above reason is why. On its own merit, it's a really beautiful name (and flower), but as the previous poster said, in the US it can definitely read as a trashy/stripper name (sadly!) UNLESS you are actually Persian. That said, maybe as you say this happily doesn't apply in the UK.

As other posters mentioned, I think Ivy as a middle name flows better off the ear, but may get a bit floral floral . I think if at age 30 she sends a CV to be employed as a barrister or businesswoman or similar... Jasmine Ivy may sound a bit too girly/flighty. So personally I'd go with a more traditional middle and pick Ella. Also, sorry to other posters but please don't hyphenate/merge to make Jasmine Ivy-ella or Ivyella. It will make the otherwise nice name seem super low class. Sorry.

Just to clarify my previous post -- the idea of hyphenating middle names isn't trashy / low class. Beatrice Rose, for example, is lovely. Ivy-Ella merged as one, however, just sounds like it was made up by a teenage Twilight fan who wanted something that sounded like Bella and was trying to be different (google Renesmee). Again, sorry for offending anyone but just saying that is the image it conjures up!

Thank you for your comment/opinion. Can I ask why if you are in Belgium and not USA you voted against the name? You said it on it's own merit it's a beautiful name but just because of the reason in USA that they can see this as a stripper name, so I was just wondering why vote against if neither you or I are in the USA.

Sorry I just realised you are American living in Belgium.

Hey,

First of all, when I voted in the poll I hadn't yet accessed the comments thread and your reply to the other poster where you explain that the name does not have the same connotation in the UK. As an American (even living abroad) the name will always have some negative baggage in my mind no matter how pretty it would otherwise be (like how Damian will always remind some people of the movie The Omen). So I wouldn't name my child Jasmine (even if they wouldn't be teased in Belgium) just because of my own cultural associations with the name. Hence my vote against.

BUT, it's great that it doesn't have that connotation in the UK, because it's a nice name when removed from the stripper context. Having learned that, I felt I should explain my vote in the poll, hence my post. I also thought that if the name's association in the US mattered to you (maybe it does, maybe it's irrelevant) that I should second the earlier American poster so you have more input to go on.

I do appreciate your comments/opinion. I understand what you mean that certain names to people like your example Damian will always stick in your mind.
I guess with every name anyone chooses someone else will have similar views, you will never get a name everyone likes.

Thank you everyone who voted on my poll :flower:
My daughter was born Monday 15th September and we named her Jasmine Ivy Ella :D

I have a Jasmine Neve :) Glad you wasn't put off using Jasmine because of previous comments, I personally think it's a beautiful name :) congratulations!
