OK I might be being really dumb here but Ive been seeing them loads in peoples signatures today, what are they and what are they about?

they are just tickers and blinkies that are being housed by another site as its server like when we use facebook to post photos here.

The site is down so it just automaticaly sticks up a advert while its down for maintenance
