The Ultimate "Driving Test" Thread!

Good luck to everyone with tests booked theory or practical:flower:
I passed my thoery 07/07/10 & practical 11/11/10
Third time lucky for both and I found out I was dyslexic after sitting 3 theory tests and two practical so if I can do it you all can:haha:

1st practical: I failed for speed and flashing my lights to a lorry to move out:dohh:

2nd practical: I failed for speed yes again!

3rd practical: I passed with 4 minors and a boot up the butt as the examiner so kindly put it

my last test was the new test with one minouver and indep drive which in my opinion is much easier IMO as for tips try to stay calm and its ok at certain points such as before moving of from being stationary, before starting minouvers to take a little second or two to compose yourself and think about what your about to do after all the examiner does say when your ready!

Also a wee tip for when you first pass dont assume that you will automaticaly get in a car and drive and it will be great yes for some ppl it will be but I know I was a nervous wreck hated driving and was terrified to go out myself was so used to someone else being in the car too but practise makes perfect and now I drive miles a day to uni/work/ day trips /out with the OH etc and dont think twice and love it! but at the start small journeys and often were what I had to do:winkwink:

Thanks Fairy, those are very good tips!! Congrats for passing your test. :D 51 days to go for meeeeeeeee!!

I've failed 3 tests  (I actually did cry!)

Test 1: 6 minors 2 majors
Test 2: 5 minors 2 majors
Test 3: 3 minors 2 majors :brat:

I have my 4th on the 17th June and i'm terrified. My stomach is churning at the though of it. I plan on using some rescue remedy to calm me down. Its the nerves that ruin it for me! :brat:

I passed my test 1st time on March 11 2011 @ 11.11am :) and yes 11 is now my new lucky number.

I got 4 minors, 1 for control, 1 for approaching a r/about to fast, 1 for my turn in the road and i forget what the other was for

For nerves i took 2 paracetamol and ate a banana an hour before my test, i had read it helps so was prepared to try anything.

The best advice i got was actually from the examiner, he said 'you start your test with a pass, so just drive as you have been taught and relax'

As Eala said, the test goes so fast! I couldnt believe it when i noticed i was approaching the test centre.

Good luck to everyone who has a test coming up :flower:

This is brilliant, i've never thought of it like that!!

whats IMO mean? i always wonder what it means lmao :haha:

its just such a long process!

the old days they just used to get into a car and exspect to know how to drive it! x

Ive been learning for 2 years now, 3 different instructors, i was learning with a female for a year and was doing well then we moved and i was quick to choose another instructor who happened to be a male, he was awful, he shouted at me and made me cry so i had a 6 month break i was terrified of getting another one who would be like that again. My instructor is lovely now she understands im nervous and i just wish i had chosen her. now i have until sept 16th to pass before my theory test runs out.
im really cacking it. good luck to everyone with their tests. :)

I've had a few instructors, 4 or 5 I think. I've taken such long gaps in between lessons, sometimes I've moved so then I have to go with someone new.
The instructor before the one I have now was a bit of a cowboy, made out I had no driving ability whatsoever and made it seem as though I'd never pass my test, so he could probably swindle as much money out of me for lessons I guess. I had about 3 lessons with him and then gave up, plus being pregnant as well I didn't really feel up to going out, especially in the 1st trimester, I was always knackered and given that he didn't fill me with much confidence, I just left it.
The instructor I have now is good, on my first lesson, he said "Right, I'm thinking you're good enough to possibly have your driving test nailed by June or July" and just generally makes driving a lot more like it's my choice.
He gives me the choice of what I want to do on my lesson's and I do feel very much like I'm in control which is new to me. Previous lessons with my other instructors, I've been told what is on the agenda, but this way it gives me the choice and also I get to pick my strengths and weaknesses.

Ooo 50 days to go!!!

I'm trying to think if I have any advice to give.
Really all I can say is drive like your instructor is there what would he/she be satin to you?

For me it was "just a light touch of the Break here" " now check your blind spots". "check your mirrors every 3 secs".

Honesty I shat myself! I'd had a miscarriage two weeks before so I almost cancelled but glad I never. However i have had two scrapes(wouldn't call them accidents as both times no car was written off).x

I passed mine the middle of June 2003, 2 wk before I was due to have my daughter :)

I think the examiner felt sorry fir me, as I touched the curb on both manouvers.

Touching the curb is permitted (you'll get a minor for it though), but if you mount the curb (kerb? kurb?) that's a dangerous fault, I think, so insta-fail.

I practiced driving yesterday and cannot believe how much of a horrid driver I am. :nope: I'm so worried I'll never be able to do this.

Had to stop my lessons i cant afford them :dohh: just hope i get this job ive had an interview for!

My OH come home yesterday, hes heard something, i dont know who off but aparently next year, they are changing the driving things to

Every passed driver cant drive with anybody under 21 in the car
They cant drive at night
and they cant over take!

WHAT THE HELL if thats true i wont be able to even do my test til next year knowing my luck, so what would be the point in me being able to drive if LO cant go in my car if i do pass ! really need to try and afford my lessons again xx

Don't be disheartened hun, practice makes perfect. Some people take a few lessons to get it and then all of a sudden something clicks and things start getting better.

How many lessons have you had?

I was really naughty the other day, I got OH's mum to take me out in the car to let me practice. It was late at night, no other traffic about and it was on the really quiet roads. I'll probably get told off. I know I shouldn't have taken such a risk with driving but the only way I am going to pass is if I practice and given that I'm having lessons fortnightly, it's just making me panic that it's not enough. I won't do it again though because I find the car is so different to my driving instructors one and it might get confusing and not only that, after I got home, a police car pulled up right in front of me, nearly giving me a heart attack but I think they were just stopping for a break or something because then 2 seconds later, they drove off, but I momentarily felt my heart rise up to my throat and it's just not worth the risk, not to myself or anyone else by doing something so illegal. So from now on, I'm going to be good and stick to driving on my lessons.

I've another lesson on Thursday, I can't wait. I want to work loads on my manoevres and some more clutch control, just to perfect them.

44 days to go!!!

I've got my test on thursday............absolutely SHITTING it tbh!!!!!!!!!!! My heart races when I think of it. Have failed 3 times but that was a few years ago and I gave up. Started lessons again in October. I am gonna actually cry and get so depressed if I fail again. I am literally housebound without a car and want to pass for my daughter so I can take her nice places!

I found this video on youtube of a practical test and it's actually really good, it's split into 5 parts, so you get a really good idea of what to expect on the test.

41 days to go and I've made a start on learning the Show Me Tell Me questions. I'll be getting my instructor to go through where everything is under the bonnet on Thursday.
