Hi there,

I'm pretty new to all this...

Hubby and I have recently decided to TTC #1 and I'm just after a little advice as, like I said, I'm not all that clued up on what to expect etc.

I took my last BCP on Sunday 19th June and had my W/B two days later (lasting five days). It's now 28 days since I last took my pill and no AF yet. Do I just need to wait for AF to arrive now? Is there anything else I should be testing or doing to help things along?

Sorry if I'm asking silly questions, just need to know what to expect...and probably learn the art of being patient - I've heard it can take months for things to get back to normal (but equally, I've heard that some people get BFP before first AF arrives after coming off BCP!)

Sorry if I sound clueless - any advice or information from people who have gone through this would be so useful!!

Thanks guys!

Hey, there!

I have never taken BC in my life, so, I am sorry to say that I can not assist you with any answers. ^^. I just wanted to interject that, no matter what the question, it is never 'silly'! :flower: After all, how will you ever know, if not by asking? :winkwink: :hugs:

All the best to you, and much :dust: !

Ive never been though this but i def think you should wait for af to show. if you dont things could be confusing. you can start charting and being more sure of your cycle once you get your period.

hopefully af will show soon so you dont have to wait around anymore!

good luck x

Hello there, hun. I never took BCP in my entire life so I can't advise you my best. Although, a friend of mine was in the same position as you before and she actually got a BCP the first month when she went off her BCP. So, I could say it is quite possible, just test and find out. Good luck to you. :flower:

Thanks for the replies and for the positive comments! It's great to hear that people can get BFP so soon coming off BCP! I'm a bit of a pessimist by nature so am planning to be TTC for a while...but I'm also hoping for a little luck! It's a difficult stage for me as without a 'real' AF, I can't plan or track anything and don't want to be testing every day 'just in case'. I now just really want AF to show her face so I have a sign of things getting back to normal. I think I'll give it six weeks from last pill unless AF comes before then!

my first cycle off BCP lasted 34 days, so waiting for your first AF is probably your best bet  I'm still waiting for my 2nd AF to arrive.. so far i'm on CD36, its hard to tell what your natural cycle legnth is since bcp gives you a 28 day cycle.

It can take a couple of cycles off bcp to regulate your body... or you can get your bfp right away! It's really such a variable. Also, coming off of bcp can give you pregnancy-like symptoms, so don't be dismayed if you start feeling in the family way only to meet AF one morning. It's all part of the ttc journey. Hoping for a swift and stress-free journey for you though!

Lucinda, I am in the same boat...I am in my first month off the BCP and my Day 28 will be this Wednesday...DH and I have been NTNP so I have to be ready for whatever happens. Only thing I can think of to do is test on day 28 and if I get a BFN, test every week until AF shows....such an akward state to me in, I know!!

I came off BCP in early June, got my W/B right away, and it took me 34 days after that for AF to show up. I'm in my second month off BCP now, so waiting to see if my cycle is shorter/longer than last month.

I didn't realize it might take a while for my body to regulate itself after coming off BCP until I found these forums. All I read online was that it takes 1 week for BCP hormones to get out of the system. I was like, "that's great!" But then I started realizing it could be several months for my body to O, and I was discouraged because I wanted to get started TTC right away. :nope:

If you don't get your BFP this time, hopefully AF will at least be a welcome sight because it means your body is back to normal! Mine was definitely a relief for me, but will hopefully be the last one for a while! :D

I am definitely feeling pregnancy-like symptoms with stomach pains, back ache, tiredness and ouch my boobs are sooo sore! I have never been so aware of my nipples - they hurt constantly! I am presuming that this is all coming off BCP symptoms and trying not to read to much into it. Just hoping and praying for AF soon. It's day 29 since coming off BCP but it's day 26 since first day of WdB.

Inpgttc - how are you calculating your days? From first day off BCP or first day of WdB?

Hey ladies I went off BCP last January. My AF came normal 28 days and has been between 25-29 days since then. Although I have been normal, the first month I had sooo many pregnancy symptoms that I could have sworn I was pregnant. It was just my body getting used to being off BCP. My friend went off BCP in January as well and has not gotten her AF yet. It can take months to get your body back to normal. If it goes over 6 months I would go see a doctor. It is very common and I believe they give you medicine to get your body regulated. Hope this helps

first day of an actual period is considered first day of a cycle  or in your case, first day of withdrawal period :)

I'm counting day 1 as first day of withdrawal bleed....

If I were you, I'd pay attention/jot down any random stuff you notice your body doing as you wait for your period. I didn't start tracking symptoms until my first tww, and I think if I'd had something to compare it to, a baseline, I wouldn't be going so crazy. Not to mention that my periods and pre-period symptoms were totally different after the pill than before it.

Woohoo AF showed today - that's 29 days since first day of WdB so I'm going to start tracking changes and symptoms etc like you suggest. Really thought it would take a couple of months but hopefully this is a sign that my body has started to get back to normal already, fingers crossed! :) So first CD1 today!

Same here Lucinda but 28 days!! It's really light though....still happy it's here!

Ditto - mine's really light too compared to normal but so glad it's arrived. Keep me updated with how things go for you!

My cyle was the same after I got off birth control. Sometimes it varies by a day. But you can definitely get pregnant right after coming off it.
