Things that go bump in the night...

So, I live in a top floor flat. The building is from the 1930s, pretty sound. But.... I keep hearing noises in the attic, like something falling off the roof and landing on the ceiling, hence the bump/thump noise.
Any ideas what it is? X

Could it be an animal of some sort? Birds?

We had birds get into our loft and it terrified me, I thought someone was above me

Theres no rustling or scratching though. Google thinks its a raccoon..... ummmm not in Newcastle

The thump is too loud for small animals, its like a sack of flour hitting the ceiling. Heavyish. I rent so might call landlord, we cant access attic as we dont have a long enough ladder here. X
