Think I messed up my calculations :(

Just been doing my maths and it looks as though I completely miss calculated my estimated ovulation dates. My cycle length is usually around 31-33 days and the first day of my last period was 29th Aug... according to the online ovulation calculators I probably ovulated from 15th to 17th September, which means I missed my fertile days

I don't know how I got it wrong, but I had my fertile days down as 10th and 11th Sept, and we DTD on 9th and 11th.

The thing is, I had what looked like EWCM around the 9th or 10th, then it dried up. The last few days I have had CM but definitely not egg white consistency, more white creamy.

I have been taking ovulation tests but not been able to get a clear positive reading from them, although I did get a very strong line from about 9th to 11th, and then no line at all on the 14th??? I am going to try the clear blue ovulation tests for my next cycle as haven't been getting on well with the current ones.

Just feeling a bit gutted now as I was really starting to feel as though I might be pregnant...:cry::cry:

I'm sorry, I use the Clearblue digitals. They are definitely worth the investment! Good luck to you..

Ok, stop panicking :hugs: For a start those online calculators just estimate based on ovulation happening 14 days before your next period is due. It's all just based on averages. You won't actually know when you've ovulated unless you regularly do OPKs and take temperatures.

Just as an example of how wrong the calculators can be, my average cycle is 26 or 27 days, and I often don't ovulate until CD16 or 17. The calculators would have me ovulating around CD12 or 13, so, SO totally wrong!

I'll echo the suggestion of using the CB digital OPKS - you can't get it wrong! You either get a smiley face or you don't.

Thanks, I will definitely be using the CB digitals next month.

I really, really, REALLY hope I just ovulated earlier than usual this month (that would explain the CM). If I did, does that mean that AF will be due earlier? Or will it still be due on the normal date? Keeping my fingers crossed for a miracle, although feeling rather doubtful :(

What beccad said! They are crap as they go by everyone ovulating at the same time each cycle with a 14 day LP, when the average is more like 12-13 days.. 14 is just the "ideal" LP. If you BD'ed with the OPKs were very dark, then chances are you ovulated then. Were they as dark as the control line or almost as dark? Also, if you're worried about when you ovulate, I suggest charting bbt :flower: xx

It'll be earlier xx

Thanks for the positive thoughts! The line was nearly as dark as the control line but not quite as dark, but I have never had a line as dark as the control line on these tests. This is why I am going to try using the digital tests next as it will be much easier to tell.

I tried charting BBT but my temps were all over the place, up and down like mad, so I gave up. I think I'll start again next month if it's a BFN, it has got to be worth a try.

Most people have roughly the same luteal phase every month (I am the exception to that rule  anyting from 9-15 days here!) so yes if you ovulate earlier you'll get AF earlier. There's a lot to be said for just having sex every two to three days through your cycle, rather than trying to time it if you don't really know when you're ovulating.

Have you been trying for long? It'd be worth having a look at Fertillity Friend I think. I certainly find it helpful.

Mine don't ever get as dark (only a few times) as the control line and I still ovulate (I chart bbt), it's quite common really. Aslong as they are almost as dark and you get AF the same amount of days afterwards, then you're ovulating :) I would be careful with the digi OPKs as they aren't as sensitive and if you don't get full blown positives, you may not get one on the cb digis. When you were temping, were you temping at the same time each morning as soon as you woke up (before getting up or speaking) with a basal body thermometer (not a regular one)? xx

I assume it was a basal body thermometer as it came in a BBT charting pack from Boots, it's a digital one. I was taking my temp at the same time every morning (straight after waking up, before getting up etc) but still very erratic. I am a fitness instructor and work quite late into the evenings some nights whereas other nights I don't work at all, I wondered whether this could be the reason for such differences in temperature from day to day? Well I only tried it for a month before giving up so I'll give it another go.

We started TTC in April/May (after our honeymoon), and then we had a few months in the middle (July & August) where we weren't actively trying (we weren't counting days or ovulation testing, just leaving up to nature) and then this month we decided to start actively trying again.

It could be from working out late in the evening.. If you don't get your bfp (which I hope you do!) I'd try it again :flower: xx

I wasted so many months on those ovulation calculators and it turns out I ovulate no where near where they predict, I no use opk and chart and I have fell twice, resulted in a miscarriage but still fell twice which I see as a big positive, now hoping the third time i fall is a sticky bean.

Baby dust to you all xxxxxxxxxxx

Well out of curiosity I decided to to an OPK today and it looks positive?! Yet I am completely dry down there (TMI). I'm not sure what those almost positive results 11 days after AF were all about then, even though I had the EWCM (or what appeared to be) at that time.

Did a pregnancy test too just to check but that came back BFN.

Very confusing. I am worried that I could have PCOS as I've heard that false positive readings on ovulation tests is a symptom... best get to the docs and see what they say.

PCOS can cause false opk readings.. it's common to get a lot of positive opks with pcos. If you want to know when you ovulate, the only way besides seeing a doctor would be charting, maybe that'll help you? Hope you're doing well, baby dust :hugs:xx
