Sorry for not updating you ladies like a good BnB:er should ;)

At 41+6, friday night, contractions localised in the cervix and lower back. I asked my midwife if she thought the baby might be back to back and her helpful reply "I hope not"

Saturday night, pains were picking up. Yet another night with no sleep.

Sunday day, managed to get 2-3 hours of sleep between pains.

Sunday evening I went in for an induction at 8PM. Had contractions, all in back and cervix, so they wanted me to wait until the morning just in case it started naturally. Yet an other night with no sleep!

Monday 9AM got gel inserted. Still very painful contractions all day. Had pain killers but didnt help much at all. 3PM, I had a check. I was so sure this was it but I was only 2 cms. It was absolutely heartbreaking!

Had a second gel inserted. Pains were really bad. Threw up everything I managed to drink / eat. After a few hours, I was 4 cms and allowed diamorphine. This was great! I managed to sleep for maybe 2 hours over the next 6.

I was sent from the birth centre upstairs to the hospital when I reached about 5 cms to be set up for an epidural. To the ladies worried about epidural: it felt NOTHING putting it, no need to worry there at all. Was about scary because of all the equpiment and preperations she had to do, but seriously, no need to worry. The catheter which was a massive scare didn’t feel a thing. Basicily like touching the area with a finger softly.

Tuesday 2AM. 10 CMs dilated and was asked to hold off with the pushed by the midwife so she can get a clear from the doctor. Was left for an hour at 10cms! Wasnt painful at all though because of the epidural but still.....MW came back and told me that the baby was back to back but that we should give it a go. Pushing wasn’t painful at all. After an hour of pushing the contractions started to become less regular (this is after 3 days, no sleep, regular contractions, i was GUTTED!)

Doctor was sent for an explained that he recommended we head to theatre for a forcep delivery. I was absolutely devastated! All these pains and I thought Id have to have more weeks following a section. Anyhow, off we went. Theatre full with people, I was in floods of tears. They put in a spinal block which didnt work. Second epidural put in place.

3 pushes and she was out with help of forcep. I heard the doctor saying to his staff that if the baby wasn’t out in next push, to put me under and have the baby out through section so I gave it absolutely everything.

I cant even describe how much energy I put in to the last push....Humans are truly amazing. She was out with a pop, my OH was crying his eyes out looking so happy. Baby taken to the side to get checked over and I was being stitched up. Had a episiotomy (doctor's cut) due to forcep, AND a second degree tear.

I was being stitched up and really well looked after.

My little girl was born 3450 grams, 50cms long at 6.20am 21.2.12.

She is absolutely worth every minute!

Sorry for incoherent text, I’ve just gotten this anti blood clot jab you get if you have a epidural. It makes you a little woosy :)

Some advice while I remember:

- Chuck your birth plan, its not worth the paper its written on and it will leave you disappointed in yourself even though you got no control.

- Bring ear plugs! Wards you "live" in are shared by others and sometimes others are bloody noisy!

- Take your time with BF, it will work in the end. Shaky starts doesn’t say anything about your ability as a new mum at all :hugs:

- Bad experiences and memories about traumatic deliveries fade away, but she will still be here.

Let nature take its course ladies. I was so disappointed with alot of things that happen but so proud that I avoided a section after all that hard work and no sleep. You all with do great :hugs:
