Did you investigate or tried to find the cause of the mmc before ttc again?

I'm 36, and had a mmc a year back, I started to track my ovulation recently but I'm not sure if I should go for any blood tests before ttc again

Everything is private here, I don't have insurance so I'll have to pay for any investigations required. When I went for the 6 wks checkup after my D&C I was given a huge list of tests that cost a lot.

I didn't go for any as we weren't ready to ttc immediately after the mc

Any advice?

Based on my and friends' experiences, doctors in the US don't tend to get concerned that there's an underlying problem unless you've had multiple miscarriages. However, my doctor did order a few tests for me after only one miscarriage, but that was because of other health problems. We did find out that I have a clotting disorder that slightly increases miscarriage risk, but we don't know if that caused this mc or not anyway.

As far as the list you received, is that a list the hospital hands out to every patient? Maybe it would help to ask your doctor if there are specific tests that make sense for you to take or maybe she or he could at least walk you through what circumstances especially warrant testing. I'm so sorry for your loss. Good luck!

I'm in Canada, and it's the same here, you have to have 2 or 3 in a row to get any testing. Which seems cruel...I couldn't imagine going through it again...and hope I don't have to. I'm 37 and had a MMC at 16wks. I asked my obgyn if I could get testing and she said no, especially since I have 2 children and no miscarriages before this one. But that was in my 20s, and I hope that I can have a happy successful pregnancy this next time around ;) If it's chromosomal, chances are that it won't happen again, that's what I read anyways.

Hi Corn.
I'm sorry for your loss. I've been told that most losses before 12 weeks are chromosomal.
I'm lucky to live in nz where it didn't cost much to get all the blood tests done so I went ahead with them.
nothing has been found so far. I think it's just my age. However I know people who have been helped by these things. Is it possible to pick the tests for thr most common causes of mc and ones that are easily treatable. I found my mmc so much harder than my mcs and I totally understand you don't want to go through it again.

Yes, although it's my only miscarriage, being pregnant and tellibg everyone your expecting, only to find out it died weeks ago is so devastating. You feel like you lied to everyone and just feel embarrassed. But mostly just sad, sad 😔
Anyways I'm really praying that next time it's a healthy baby :)

BTW I wanted to say I'm so so sorry you have gone through this 3 times😢 that's more than anyone should bare. And 19wks is so incredibly hard. It was hard for me because we had already booked a gender reveal ultrasound. Anyways I hope you get your healthy beautiful baby 😊

Hi cornField. You summed it up exactly in the previous post. I still cry about it.
I put in 19 weeks down as 19 weeks was the day I had my erpC. I actually found out at the 12 week scan that baby died at 10 weeks. I wanted to mc naturally as I had found that so healing before. The mc didn't happen and I therefore had to have the erpc. I carried my baby for 19 weeks so I put that down out of respect for my girl. I think it's so devastating because you think you are safe.

Since I had my erpc I have had sooooo many people tell me they've had something similar and have gone on to have healthy babies so there really is hope. It's more common than we think and there will be healthy babiea for us soon.

Ya, for me I also miscarriaged in January. I started bleeding the day I turned sixteen weeks and had no clue before that anything was wrong, except that my morning sickness got a bit better at 14wks.
They said I measured only 10wks..but the fetus was fully formed when it came out. I am going to bury it soon and plant some bulbs that will bloom in July when it was due. I still cry everyday at some point. Just seeing a lady with her little girl at the store got me all emotional today. Since we decided to try again I feel a lot better. Of course it doesn't take away the pain though. Maybe we can keep in touch on here, I'd like to see how things go for you :). Wishing you the best! I'm in the two week wait right now.. But only first month of trying really.

Hi Omarsmum, sorry for your loss :hugs: I've had two mmc. First was at 24 years old and second just after my 27th birthday. All my tests came back normal xx

Oops omars mum. Sorry I thought corn started the thread. I read and then didn't scroll up Properly so made a mistake.

So my reply was meant for you but I got confused. I'm so sorry for your loss too. I'm on my phone at the mo. Will reread everything when I get home. Once again sorry.

I had a miscarriage in February and no tests were performed to figure out why. I saw a heart beat at 6 weeks 3 days but my bleeding got very heavy and my cervix was open so had ERPOC at 6 weeks 5 days :(

I am lucky to be pregnant again now (only 5 weeks 4 days) and the only extra test I have had this time is my hcg levels have been recorded. Last time I was just a urine test to confirm. No investigations are done here unless I have multiple miscarriages so I am hoping this one is sticky.

Don't worry about not having any tests done before starting ttc, and best of luck :)

I didn't have any tests done after my mmc. I was just told that there was no indication at this point that anything is wrong and that it was likely just one of those things that happens. I would have liked to have been tested though to put my mind at ease a bit. We're ttc again though and just hoping for a different outcome.
