Thyroid Cancer, Anyone?

How are you doing MrsDuck? Have you scheduled or had the RAI treatment yet? How are you feeling?

Hi Kenzi, thanks for thinking of me x

No not yet, I have an appointment on 25th to see the thyroid specialist so hopefully I will get a date then.

I'm feeling ok thanks, it took a long time to be able to move my neck properly and without pain. The consultant said it would take 8 months to a year to be completely healed internally!

How are you, is your life back to normal now, and do you have to go back for a repeat scan in a year or so's time?

I've finally got my appointment date for the RAI treatment.....21st jan

That's great you finally have a date! will it be inpatient or outpatient?

I'm doing ok, my insurance dropped me for no reason so I have been without meds for two weeks because i've been waiting for labwork results that have apparently been lost and am starting to feel quite ill. I've been fighting and crying on the phone with them every day with little results.

Aw kenzi that's awful, how were they able to just drop you that's truly awful. I hope you get your results and new insurance soon x

I'm an inpatient for the RAI, they said I'll be in hospital for up to a week!

How are you doing Mrs Duck? So your RAI treatment is coming up! Do you have any special preparations for it? I had to follow a strict low iodine diet.

I don't really have much time to post any more, I have been busy with work and my kids. My insurance put me back on, thank goodness. I have an appointment in early January to check my levels. My doctor now thinks they
are too high. I am finally able to lose weight again, and have lost 20 lbs since September. I am starting to feel like myself again.

Hi kenzi, yes it can't come quick enough, I just want to get back to normal.

I'm glad they are keeping check on your levels and I hope all goes well for you in January. I bet it's great to be back to normal life with your children and congratulations on your weight loss xx

*hugs*. The waiting is the worst part. Hopefully the time passes quickly for you.

You aren't wrong this all started in February so it will be a year.....I'm sick of waiting aaaaaaagh xx

Thanks Kenzi, I hope you and your family are well. The RAI went well but now unfortunately I need some radiotherapy and the cancer had spread into my muscle in my neck which the RAI treatment isn't that affective at killing off so still got a way to go but I'll get there xxx

Hi, just thought I'd pop in to see how you are MrsDuck. I hope your treatment went well.

I have my 1 year scan next week, and i'm slightly nervous. They found thyroid tissue in my neck in June. My doctor is pretty sure it is dead tissue, but I guess we will
see.

Hi kenzi, oh no that must be a worry, I hope they are right and it's just dead tissue :) let us know how your scan goes wont you :)

I just had my follow up scans to the radioactive iodine treatment this week but I don't get the results until a week Monday. All we ever do is wait!

I can't remember if I mentioned I ended up having 5 weeks of radiotherapy as well as the RAI treatment, it was awful, far worse than the surgery.

I guess we'll be getting our results about the same time, I hope it's good news for us both :)

Kenzi how did your scan go?

I thankfully had good news at my scan, I'm officially cancer free, there wasn't any pick up of the iodine yay :)

Yay congratulations!!! Sorry you had a rough time, youmust be so happy that everything is over and done with!

My tests came back clear as well! Such a relief! We can both put this behind us!

Yay that's fantastic news kenzi I'm soooooooo happy for both of us :happydance: It is such a relief isn't it? Thank goodness that's all over :) xxx

Congrats to both of you!! SO happy to hear your scans came back clear :D

Mrs Duck, good luck with the TTC. I have 3 gorgeous monsters post-thyroidectomy and radiation, so it's incredibly possible!!

:yipee:

Thanks wamommy :) how long did it take you to get your tsh levels balanced and how long after getting the all clear did you start ttc? You give me hope :)

It's a little different for me, because I was diagnosed in my teens, and was all clear by 21. They told me that the 5 year scan was "full" remission :) I didn't start TTC until my late 20s, so I had a little buffer to get my levels balanced. I still get checked every 6 months (every month while pregnant, because hormones make my levels go crazy!) and have found that since this last baby 6 months ago I have not been able to get my TSH into the normal range. It's too low, which is super strange. I'm taking less levothyroxine than I ever have, and my TSH is .023? Too weird. Anyhow, I just started seeing a new endocrinologist, so hopefully I'll figure it out.

As far as TTC, I had a couple of early losses which they figure may have been due to hyperthyroidism, but no one really knows. I also had a really tough time with breastfeeding (low production) but other than that I had a pretty easy time, I must say!
