Went to docs apt on fri to discuss my thyroid results. Since we have been ttc for a year now he is referring us to fs and told me to speak to them about my thyroid. Even though my levels are indicating underactive apparently they don't give any medication until the tsh level is 10, which mine isn't far off. I explained about it almost impossible to lose weight, constant tiredness etc so he agreed to give me a trial on the thyroid tabs to see if it makes a difference. Anyone else on them? I am on lowest dose so hopefully it does something. I also said about the connections I had read between fertilty and thyroid but they had never heard of any. Hopefully the tablets work and I don't have to go through the whole hospital process again like we did for no. 1 where they diagnosed me with pcos but then I fell preg after hsg

I have a thyroid problem and also thyroid antibodies so need meds.

You really need a tsh of between 1 and 2, otherwise you are at an increase risk of miscarriage, also while getting tsh levels into that zone you should have a blood test every 6 weeks to adjust your meds accordingly (meds take 6 weeks to get in your system). Ask for antibodies tests as well to check for hashimotos as well also your vit d and folic acid levels.

Print everything off the Internet and take that to the docs with you! You really do need to get your tsh much lower so don't let them fob you off at all!

Pm me if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them as I have been at the hospital as a private patient since may so will help in any way I can x

Ps, what meds are you taking and how much?

Are you going as a private patient about your thyroid?? I am taking levothyroxine 25 mg. Said because tsh was still under 10 to start on a low dose then get it checked in either 4 to 6 weeks(couldn't remember which) but sounds like 6 weeks would be better? Depending on results I could be taken off them. I really think it was just to passify me until I have my hospital apt and speak to them about it.

Yes private because of my throid but through my hubbys work.

25 is a very low dose, I would expect you will need it increasing after your next bloods. A tsh of 10 is high, you should be treated if your tsh is over 5 but need it between 1-2 to conceive.

Please don't let them send you away empty handed, you need furter tests as above and to get your tsh down. When mine was 10 I felt dreadful and couldn't cope with everyday life. You need to get your ft3 and ft4 checked and antibodies as a basic x

get in touch hon if you need any more info x

Tsh was 8.84 but then came down to 6.8. T4 was about 13. Hopefully these tablets sort all my ailments. Thanks for the advice x

I've been taking thyroxine for my underactive thyroid for 3 or 4 years now and it really helped my symptoms (lethargy/tiredness, cold, immune system). I'm on a daily dose of 150. My last check gave me a level of 0.8 which I thought was good as they say 'below 2' for ttc, but now I'm concerned it's too low having read this thread.

I would say .8 is still fine and docs wouldn't be at all concerned with that, just start questioning if it goes any lower. But I would be very happy with that tsh level.

Just remember that as soon as you get your :bfp: you need to get to the docs asap for blood test and they will increase your meds, this is so important as your body will need more thyroxine. Then you need regular blood tests to ensure your levels are ok!

Why do you need more if you get a BFP Ald? My GP will be telling me where to go if I keep telling him info about Thyroid and fertility but he doesn't seem to know much. I have a feeling if this low dose if thyroxine lowers my TSH even slightly he will leave it at that and not up it any to get the level lower.

My Endo told me to start getting monthly tests once I got a :bfp: but said it was highly unlikely I'd need a dose increase until the 3rd trimester.

I have no thyroid gland at all, and my levels are wholly dependant on levothyroxine. I had a total thyroidectomy in 2010.

Edited to add Izzy, ask your GP to refer you to an Endocrinologist ASAP, because, to be quite honest, your GP sounds pretty clueless with regards to thyroid issues!
