I am 13+5 today and got my first tick bite this morning that I have gotten in 20 years.
Of course I googled, and now I am freaking out about Lyme disease or my 0.0063% chance of developing rocky mountain spotted fever. The tick couldn't have been latched on long as it wasn't engorged at all and it was itching so I think it started itching when it started trying to attach. We got it out with no problems.... Well.... Except my anxiety.
I called my doctor who is putting me on amoxicillin for ten days as prophylaxis for Lyme (so I guess to help prevent it), but there is nothing they can do for rocky mountain except wait and see if I get sick in the next week. They assured me more than once that is very rare, and even though there has been press about it where we live, its still extremely rare and in thirty years she has only seen one case.
I feel like such a nut case. I have awful anxiety about health problems, especially when pregnant. Its easy when its just me getting sick but putting my child at risk is even devastating to think about. I tried to tell my grandmother, who pulled it out, to keep it but it was down the drain before I could get the words out. I couldn't tell what kind it was. Just a tiny brown tick.
Does anyone have any advice or stories about getting bit by a tick?
