Time to start thinking finances - Where should I start?

Hi Ladies,

I'm hoping that someone could help me with where to start working out my finances and how I could possibly make this all work. No judgement please, I know it's not an ideal situation and in an ideal world I wouldn't have to be looking for support and I don't want anything I'm not entitled to.
Me and the baby's father are no longer together, it's all still an awkward, uncomfortable situation but I've been trying to focus on finishing this term at university so I can defer my place as baby is due at the beginning of next term.

I'm planning to move back home with my mum when my lease here is up and she's happy to have me. However, I will not be recieving my student loan for the next year and obviously baby's dad will not be living with us to contribute to mum's bills either. Mum is happy to have me and she's sure we'll work something out financially but I'm really concerned. I want to make sure i'm contributing as much as I can and providing for my baby. I know my ex will have to pay child support so that's okay but does anyone know what I might be entitle to even though I'm living with my mum? I would be fine with looking for a job but the only thing I have experience in is caring for the elderly which is a job I'd rather not start again while pregnant. It's all so confusing and causing me so much worry I just don't know what to do.
I'm in the UK if that helps. Posted in 2nd tri too

You will almost certainly get child benefit as most of the UK get that, which is £20ish a week.
If you fill in the hmrc child tax credit you will probably get something there too. I dunno how maternity pay works as your a student. Im sure you will find you will get alot of help.

In terms of helping out, have a look at contributing x amounts towards the bills or maybe pay for the food bill each week?

Why not speak to one of the counsel lets at uni as they might know to these things work for students, also try Direct.gov.uk?
