Hun I know what you're going thru with the sleep thing exhausting isn't it
. First off white noise is like background noise that baby can focus on to soothe - when Oliver had colic the hairdryer on would soothe him instantly. These days we use a white noise machine got it from TKMaxx for a tenner - but if you have an i-pod you can download white noise and just leave it on all night - our favourite is a rainfall one.
Now over the cc - I used it the night before last for the first time ever - I was just so exhausted and I was going in, settling him and he'd be awake ten mins later screaming again not letting me put him down - I think 8 1/2 months of no sleep made me think I have to do something about this (and its never an easy decision is it - I have never ever left Oliver to cry even for a minute so it was really new to us). What I did was go in, pop his dummy in and shhhh and rub him for 2 minutes, then go out the room and leave it 10 mins, go in and shhhh and rub, go out for ten mins and repeat - I only had to do this 3 times and he went to sleep for the rest of the night - BUT it wasn't pleasant and he went to sleep doing that breath gapsing thing you do when you've been sobbing it broke my heart to see - but I did get some sleep and so did he and last night I was prepared to do it but he slept really well. Not saying it's worked that quick could be a fluke.
I do feed in the night so my plan is this - ill try and soothe him with shhh and dummy as long as I can. When I know he wont settle Ill give him his bottle and settle him like I always have. Give him a good half hour of rocking and settling like I always do and if this isn't working will use a bit of CC that way I feel I have tried my hardest NOT to use it if I can help it.
Hope this helps hun sorry its so long
The only problem I can forsee you having is doing it with bubs in your bedroom -I think it will be very difficult to lie right next to him and listen to him crying? Then again think this might be similar to the techniques used in sleep sense - perhaps ask the girls over there about it.
Good luck hun - let me know how you get on!
