Tips for neckache?

I've had terrible neckache since yesterday evening .. everyone says "oh youve slept funny" but i didnt get it until 10pm and its been aching all down the left side like ive pulled a muscle or something

Anyone got any tips to relieve the pain?

i use those thing you can put in the microwave ...i think they are pillow in U shape filled with sand ...

Or how about some ice packs.

Funny thing is, what do they recommend....heat or ice?
