Hi all,

Just a warning for the queasy, this post is talking about discharge and such, so may be tmi to some but I need some info.

If you have had a subchorionic bleed that has resolved, please let me know what your discharge or spotting was like up until the SCH was gone.

Here is my story...Opinions are appreciated on if this sounds like it is resolving or might already be. My OB isn't doing ultrasounds except at the "normal" times now because she isn't concerned at all..but I of course am.

I was diagnosed with a bleed around 5/6 weeks. It is small (OB said 2 cm, I saw on the chart the overall dimensions were 4 x 2 x 3 or something like that which didn't seem so small compared to the 2 cm she told me - is that still considered small?) Mine is right by my cervix, not adjacent to the baby, and doesn't appear to be where the placenta would form. At the time they did the ultrasounds, the placenta wasn't quite there yet, but I don't think the placenta would usually form over the cervix, right?

I had two small-ish red bleeds where I gushed but barely filled a pad. After that, I spotted brown and black for an entire month. You know, the fun goopy stringy "what the heck is that?!" stuff. It was mostly lots of brown, some blackish brown when I wiped, and many times, large black clumps of what were clearly dried blood, sometimes tons of it.

It stopped for a couple days, then I spotted brown again for a couple days, and now I have had nothing except a bit of "snotty" yellowish discharge at times, (don't worry, it doesn't smell, itch or burn or look abnormal besides it being yellow) most of the time when I wipe there isn't much of anything.

Since mine is over the cervix, I think everything that was going to come out would come straight out, so I'm hopeful since I'm not spotting *right now* but also quite nervous as I keep checking to see if I am suddenly spotting or bleeding again. I tell ya, this thing will drive you nuts! I just want an ultrasound so I can know if it is gone, so I don't even have to think about it anymore.

Anywho, I'd appreciate any experience on the discharge front. Thanks! :)

I had one found at 5 weeks (currently 6w4d with twins but cautiously so). I had spotting when it was found, and then over the last weekend I had a significant amount of bleeding, but the hematoma is still there.

I don't have much info for you, just offering support. I know how terrifying this is.

Yay for yellowish snot discharge!! (seriously! It's normal! :haha:)
That's actually what I'm used to in my pregnancies and what I had with my previous 2. This time I've had ongoing bleeding and spotting (they don't know why) since 6 weeks so only occasionally have what I consider "normal" discharge. Which is yellow to creamy and can be super thick and snot-like or thin and there can be lots. This time due to the spotting I always have brown/pink discharge which is so worrying.

Fingers crossed that it's gone...or at least almost completely healed!

I had a bleed on a Wednesday while on vacation...a light gush of bright red thin blood (thin as in no clots or anything) that was just followed by brown spotting for the rest of the day, then Thursday I had red bloody spotting throughout the day, then by evening it was brown spotting, and by Monday it was almost completely gone. Went to my OB Monday, got checked out and baby was great and healthy, but this is when I was diagnosed with the subchorionic bleed. I was told to avoid sex and exercise for a week from the last day of the red blood (to be bleed free for a week). A week went by without any more bleeding or spotting, so OH and I decided to DTD. Well immediately after, I had a small gush of dark brown discharge (pretty 'thin' and no clots), then brown spotting for the following 2-3 days, and then all was gone. No more discharge, so that following Friday we DTD...again brown discharge. This time I had small stringy clots here and there, but nothing crazy or huge, and it wasn't all the time. I then decided to do a little more research (since OB seemed so nonchalant about my bleed at the initial appt) and found that sex or any kind of cervical stimulation can irritate the SCH and cause more bleeding, a tear or more growth. Let me tell you, so much guilt after that! It is now Tuesday and the brown discharge is pretty much completely gone. Just get a little brown string here and there when I wipe.

I have my next appt on Monday and am counting down the days! Just want to see LO on the ultrasound again to be sure it's OK, and I want to see the condition of the SCH.

Mine must not be too severe since I've run, worked out and done spin class (all much lighter intensity than how I normally work out) about 5 times within the past 9 days. I'm just over not being able to please my OH...kinda depresses me! :/

Sorry for the novel! I hope I kinda helped reassure...I'll keep you updated on Monday!

Thanks for the responses everyone. These things sure are annoying! There's such little info on them, and such conflicting info so I'm glad for these boards to hear other experiences.
I know exactly how you feel Dani. My doc said I could return to normal activity since I haven't bled for 5 weeks, but I am terrified to because so many other people's doctors say to avoid sex and exercise until it is completely gone! I am going nuts, because I am such an active person.. I was biking and hiking all the time before I had the first bleed and now I'm afraid to do all that even though my doctor thinks it is fine. I just don't get why a lot people are on bed rest and not allowed to do anything but my doctor thinks I'm in the clear even though I still have it as far as I know. Did they ever tell you where yours is located and what size it is? I'm curious if that has anything to do with your doctors similar attitude to my doctor. How often do they check yours? Please do update us after your appointment!

I have yellowish, greenish, whiteish all different at times - snotty discharge.. It's not BV as no itching burning or odour.. Nadda - i did have SH but never actually bled it just resolved itself on it's own.. :)

Good to hear!
How far along were you when you were you diagnosed and when did it resolve, nolansmom? Did they give you any restrictions you followed to help it heal?

I had U/s at 5+2 and nothing.. U/s at 7+6 and SH was there but no bleeding or spotting at all. Then at 9 weeks give or take I had another U/s with no noted SH on U/s report. These were not done by same U/s clinic o they were never "checking" for the SH - but it would have been noted.

Had U/s today and saw baby at 11+6 they have calculated me at. Never any spotting or bleeding. OB has now taken a pap (only because I haven't had one in over 2 years).. He called it discharge when he saw it during pap though and when I asked could it be mucous plug he said no..

BTW - I was having these U/s because I had terrible pain - (yes I'm also one of those who needs reassurance). :)

Now I am certain everything is good so next U/s is 19 weeks unless I pay $150 to do an early gender scan is USA. :)

It's likey just gonna be the kind of discharge we have during this pg.. I don't remember it all with Ds though.. :(

I just think it's so crazy how I can work out with seemingly no issues, but DTD with DH seemed to definitely irritate it both times. :/

Unfortunately I didn't get any info, but my OB mentioned the bleed so casually I had to ask her again, 'And what was this called??' She went on saying 'This is fairly common in the first trimester of pregnancy and very rarely does it end in miscarriage. It's unknown how they are actually caused...' She also mentioned it as a Subchorionic Bleed, and not a Hemorrhage or Hematoma, and didn't give me any specifics. I'll definitely be asking for more info on mine...size, location, condition, etc. I'm sure it's just so I don't worry...but man, kinda rude that they didn't tell me anything, huh??

After looking at pictures of u/s online pointing out SCH's...I'm curious as to weather or not a 'pocket' type thing I see under baby from the u/s is my SCH or not. The attached picture was at the u/s appt a few days after the initial bleed, at 9 weeks...

I'm sure it is so you don't worry. My ob did the same thing and it wasn't until my 10 wk appointment that I had a list of questions about it for her...lol. Apparently they aren't much to worry about if they're in a decent location. Just don't do what I did and google! So much conflicting, scary worst case scenario info out there. I.e. apparently miscarriage actually caused by the sch is rare, yet a lot of doctors who don't deal with them often think its a high rate. My ob deals with them aaaaalll the time and says they are so common, and in the very beginning it is all or nothing in the pregnancy - either the big bleed will cause too much trauma to the uterus and cause a young pregnancy to fail, or it will continue successfully, and this is just because a young pregnancy (like 5/6 weeks) is so fragile at that stage that an irritant like blood could be bad. BUT a lot of people have huge huge bleeds and their baby is just fine so who knows!! I'm just going to believe my knowledgeable doctor, that my risk is not any higher due to the actual sch, and just have to believe that everything will be fine like she says it will.

That is a very good way of looking at it! lol I'll have to do the same. As you said, the worst case scenario's on the internet can really freak you out...it sometime clogs your brain and makes you forget...that is WORST case. You kinda forget the sheer number of pregnancies and birth's there are every day when reading story after story of SCH's gone bad. But definitely being positive! Can't wait till our appt. to come.

Hey! Just wanted to give you an update as promised. :)

Went and got my 12w ultrasound and brought up my SCH with the tech and she said she sees no bleed at all so everything is resolved...yay! Hubby and I DTD this morning (sorry tmi haha) and I was so nervous, expecting some spotting again after, but nothing. Everything seems to truly be gone! Yay! :) How is everything going with you??

So glad to hear it! It turns out what I had was also a SCH which has almost completely resolved as well! Yay!

That is awesome! It's so nice to hear positive outcomes instead of reading all the sad negative things you find on SCH's. :)
