My mom says after you have the baby that you basically have your period for a month, or at least bleeding. I looked online and it said that your period is unlikely to come back for six to eight weeks after the pregnancy and if you are breast feeding it may not come back until you stop.
Which is right?

You'll have slight bleeding for a while but it's not a period it's just from giving birth and stuff.

If your breastfeeding, your actual period won't come back for a long while. My sis in law is still breastfeeding her 13 month old and hasn't had her period since, but had bleeding for about a week and a half after giving birth.

Both are right. After you give birth you'll bleed for a while. Some people only bleed for a week, others bleed for 6 weeks. It all depends on the person. But after that stops, if you're breast feeding, you won't get a period for a while.

after both my kids I only bled for 3-4 weeks and I breast fed. I still had regular periods (bf daughter for 4 months and son for 18 months) while I breast fed. Its common NOT to have a period but you still may. Mine was definitely lighter. but I was also on birth control pills.

I will say this, sex while breast feeding and on the pill, buy stock in lube.

i bled for about 4 weeks and im breastfeeding. i had iud put in on tuesday which has made me bleed a bit again but hopefully wont get a period anymore!

I bf taye exculsivly and bleed for 6 weeks after him, but after that i didnt have a period til he was 7-8 months old.

i bled for 3 weeks PP. its caused by the wound your placenta leaves. not a period .
i hope not to have one for a while as im BF'ing.

I bled for 3 weeks, and exclusively breastfed my little one, got my periods back when she was about 2 months old! Everyone's different x

Everyone is different. I bled for 6 weeks straight after giving birth to my daughter. I exclusively breastfed, yet my period arrived a week after my post birth bleeding stopped. So breastfeeding does not mean that your period could take a while to come. Just depends on how lucky you are

Yeah, Lor is right, everyones different. i bled for about 6 weeks too, then three weeks later got my period. my friend bled for a week and didnt get a period for like 8 months!

the bleeding afterward is called lochia n its hideous. my middie told me to see my doc if any clots larger than a grapefruit came out! And it got close! it was dark red with loads of clots for a while, then just whiteish yellow kind of goo.

I'm not sure, I think it does act as some form of contraceptive but I definately would NOT rely on it if you don't want to get pregnant again!

I bled proper blood for about a month, and then gunky brown stuff until 3 months after the birth. I also passed a clot the size of a plum 2weeks after birth, was told this is normal by midwife. I didn't get my period until just after four months after the birth. I was breastfeeding.

About the giant clots OKAY now i'm a bit terrified again o.o and I think you can get pregnant while breast feeding, so i've heard..not really worth the risk i think lol

yes you can get pregnant while breastfeeding, no period does not mean no ovulation.

Its only been 9days since i gave birth and im still bleeding :/
No period type pains tho..and id even say its lighter than a period..Maternity pads arnt even needed for me lol xx

Oh..i passed a bigg clot like 3 days ago..it really scared me coz it was really heavy!!
Midwife said its normal aswell ..
When my mum was pregnant with me she had a clot that fell out and was so big that her actual trousers & knickers fell downshe had to go hospital tho because the size of it just wasnt 'normal'x
