okay ladies I need advice.

For the past two days I have noticed my discharge smelling really sweet- like, candy sweet! I noticed it yesterday first but then today my wife came home and the first thing she did was sniff in that general direction and tell me that it smelled funny (told you tmi!). I asked her how it smelt and she said sweet...

is this anything to be concerned about, do you think? I haven't been eating more sugar than normal or anything! anyone have any ideas?

I would be concerned that you're leaking amniotic fluid. I have no firsthand experience but I have heard that described as "sweet-smelling." So, personally, I'd call your doctor.

Get to the doc ASAP. I'm 99% sure your waters have went. This could lead to infection if not monitored properly!

I also think a call to the doctor is in order. Let us know how you're doing!

Really? It's that serious? Wasnt expecting this answer honestly thought maybe a uti or something.

If its my waters though would I expect an increase in discharge? And can they reseal themselves? I'm only asking because I'm kind of "dryish" down there right now (not all the way but relatively speaking) and I always heard with waters it would be super wet????

Usually they would pop/gush/etc but you can also just leak them more slowly.

You could have a small tear and be leaking slowly and it could stop leaking if the babies head blocks the rip. You definately need to go to the doctor and they will use a little strip on you to test to see if it is amniotic fluid. If it is your waters they will have to see how much has leaked, if the leaking has stopped, and if it hasn't, they will most likely start you on bedrest and steroids to develope the lungs incase you go into labor. This is a serious situation. It is much better to be safe than sorry. I am no doctor, but if it were me I would head straight in to get checked. If it turns out to be nothing, then no harm done.

If its not leaking very much then you could have what is known as a "pinhole leak" basicly the babys head creates a vacuume seal and it just ever so slowly leaks out. And meanwhile baby is loosing fluid slowly. The excess discharge could be parts of your mucus plug going. At least call your doctor and she will tell you to go in and get it tested.

After reading these responses I just wanted to ssend hugs your way and tell you im praying its nothing. Good luck girl!

I have had the same thing for about a month, i googled it and found many women saying they had it in pregnancy and their doctors said its normal, due to change in hormones etc. Thats just my experience though :)

To be honest I have no idea, but I hate to read and run. Reading the other comments though and I definitely think you should call your midwife and ask. I know it's embarrassing but better to be safe.

Couldn't it be just increased discharge? From what I've read, amniotic fluid smells like semen??

I swear I read it like a million times, but I guess it smells different to everyone.

to OP, hope it's nothing but call and get it checked out for peace of mind.

arghhhhhh! i have been having this for a few days now aswel and thought nothing of it. now im shitting myself!

I've too! It wasn't watery in consistency though, seemed just like regular discharge so I didn't think much of it... guess we should all go and get checked!

If ive had amniotic fluid leaking for the past month wouldnt i have had more symptoms or something??

I used to get sweet smelling discharge just before period started so it makes sense that it would b a change in hormones...

I'd have guessed less fetal movement and belly measuring behind, and go into labor? I really don't know... they say the hormone estrogen could be responsible for the smell...

Iv also read amniotic fluid smells sweet. Im pretty sure u can leak it without other symptoms but its bad for baby. I agree with getting checked out beter safe than sorry xx
