well, ive had internal thrush for about a year and a half, but never really bothered to do anything about it, but when i found out i was pregnant i went to the doctors and he gave me the external cream which obviously doesnt make sense as it clearly states that it doesnt treat the internal infection, so it goes without saying that it had no effect. So, yesterday i got a 500mg Clotrimazole pessary and inserted it last night before bed, and about half an hour ago i noticed big powdery clumps in my underwear? ive never used a pessary before and dont know much about them so im just wondering whether that means that it hasnt worked/dissolved properly?
sorry for the TMI but ive searched all over the internet and so far have found diddly squat to help me, haha!
xx

oh thats suppose to happen when you use a pessary. also when you use one its best to wear a pantyliner aswell :)
xx

Yes, it says that in the leaflet. It *might* still work though if most of it had dissolved so wait a few days before treating again. Oh and don't take anything orally, it hasn't been confirmed safe in pregnancy but the pessary has.

A year and a half?! My God, how did you cope?!

I get thrush quite commonly. I recently had it due to taking antibiotics for a UTI and my MW gave me the pessary (I usually take the pill for convenience, but not sure it's safe during pregnancy.)

Having some chalky residue after using it is very common; what goes up must come down, right?! However, if you've noticed large lumps of it have come back out (particularly if it's soon after using it) then it may not have worked.

Mine cleared up within two days of using, so keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get better, try again (keep using your cream externally in the meantime).

thanks girls :)! yeah ill just wait a couple of days and if its come back then it looks like its another trip to the doctors, haha! :)xx

Laurakiaora- i know yeah haha, its been a real pain in the backside but ive been a bit lazy and just left it to its own devices, much to my demise haha! xx

last time i had thrush i was told to take 1 pessary and then another 1 a week later so it worked properly. it wont do any harm to baby at all :)
xx

I used a pessary for the first time last week too, OH found it hilarious the fact I had to insert it with my finger, it was soo painful. Worse thing is I think I'll have to do another soon.

I had thrush for the first time ever just before I found out I was pregnant (gave me an inkling I could be pregnant as it was out the blue), I tried the cream at first but it just "eased it" for a few hours, used a pessary one night then within 2 days it was all gone. I didn't find it painful to use at all. For the week I had thrush, it was the most uncomfortable thing ever!
