i was thinking about starting to give katie toast, but i'm kinda clueless!

we normally have brown bread, is that ok for her?

i'm kinda worried aswell that she'll bite off big chunks and choke! i was fine at giving her finger food until the other week when she had a bit of pear and she didnt chew properly and choked and it was horrible!!

she's normally dead good at chewing tho, so i dunno what happened lol!

so yea, whats best to do and what kind can i give her?

cant help I am afraid Elinor refused to eat toast until she was about 11 months old...and will only eat it with cheese spread on

:hugs:

Oliver has toast with literally anything on it! Honey, cream cheese, humous - you name it!!

I tried Ollie with toast for the first time yesterday and he loved it! I'm sure she'll be fine for you to try it x

maddi adores toast! i started with white bread/whole meal, in case of choking but actually maddi's fav is the seedy granary! just give her a try sweetie! lots of luck xx

Did you know that babies under 12months shouldn't have honey coz of the risk of botilism babe???? I wouldn't give it to him with honey on again for another 6months.

Toast is fine from 6/7 months but the seeded bread is probably not advisable. I cut it into triangles as toast fingers are a bit floppy and difficult for baby to eat. They just usually suck on the bread at 1st to be honest rather than eat it. I just spread it with a little unsalted butter and move onto other toppings a bit later on as most things like cheese spread, Marmite, peanut butter aren't advisable to give to babies under a year coz of salt content and possible intolerances.

Good luck:hugs:

i think i'll give it a go! she's a chewer you see, where most babies suck, she gums absolutely everything, she's managed to get thru cucumber skin and bite chunks off melon!!

I've heard about that too, didn't pick up that Kat had said honey x

god i'm such a wuss!! i just gave her some toast, and she loved it, gave her triangles and she was folding them over trying to get the whole thing in!!

the only problem was she started biting chunks off and i was too scared to let her chew and swallow, i keep thinking she's going to try and just swallow!

should i just have left her to it?

I know it's difficult but yeah leave her to it - even if she starts to cough a bit or sounds to be gagging - they have an overactive gag reflex and they will work it out. If you panic they might panic an avoid stuff.

eek im just so scared lisa! i used to be so so good at giving her finger food and one bad experience has put me off!!

My sister's the same babe - choking is her 'thing' she's ' when she sees me leave Hebe to get stuff up on her own. I only ever take bread/toast out if she gets a really big bit and I check the roof of her mouth after coz it sometimes hides up there all soggy :)

I never have to bat her back and I give her some of everything we eat. She was eating great lumps of pear after her tea - they pick up chewing very quickly when having lots of finger foods :D

thats the thing, she doesnt bite small chunks off, its always huge great things! she's the same with every food, its as much as she can get into her mouth!

I promise you, once you see her handle something from gagging to spitting it back up you'll stop worrying as much xx

oh sweetie, my mum is just the same! it is scary but i'm sure she'll be fine xx

Did you also know that the risk of getting botulism from honey is the same as jam? They reccomend that if you have a strong family history of hayfever, to give honey from a local farm? Both hubby and I suffer from it TERRIBLY, so we chose to give him honey. I did my research before I started feeding my boy.

Really, I never knew that about jam. Thanx for that Kat. I have heard about having local honey as me and my OH suffer too but I can't stand it lol! Will remember it for Ollie and Faith though x

Ooooh!! I never knew about jam or the local honey for hayfever thing!! I almost put some honey in Hebe's porrige but then I found cinnamon!!

what she said!!!

Rebecca loves toast and bites off big bits too and she has never had any problems bringing the big bits back up again. She gets all excited when she is sitting in her high chair and sees me coming through with her plate of toast:rofl:
