I am looking to move Leah to a big girl bed after Xmas, and I am confused as to whether I shud move her into a toddler bed the same size as her cot, or straight into an adult single bed? She sprawls and has outgrown her cot, but surely she will have outgrown a toddler bed as well then?!

I'm confuuuuused!

We already had a single bed in the house so we decided to try that befor going out and buying a toddler bed. Harvey's been sleeping in it since April and he's been totally fine with the bigger bed. He has a rail fitted so he doesn't fall out.

We had an Ikea cot-bed (which he hated and almost never used) and then got an Ikea toddler bed and there is quite a bit of difference in size (although once again he sleeps next to me in our double bed-DH works nights).

So a toddler bed may not actually be the same size but you can go straight to a single if you want. The main difference is the guard rails but you can buy them separate anyway and the height but you can just pick a low down single bed.

we got a toddler bed. they r not the same size as a cot, they r not far off a single bed size only they r just alot lower down to the floor and have small sides so they dont fall out.

i had a cot bed but disliked the idea of her falling out so we went out got her a peper pig toddler bed she loves it kisses gourge and pepper every night b4 bed lol.

i considered buying a single bed but she just seemed far to small lol to me shes my baby still not a toddler.

We have a toddler bed from Argos and DS has been in it since he was 18months old. He loves it but I think I would of been tempted to get a single bed if there had been room [his bedroom is tiny]. The toddler bed is meant to last to age 5.

We do have a daybed in our spare room which is downstairs and he often has a rest in that and has slept in it a few times. We're hoping to move next year and Ds will be going into the daybed x

Personally we just switched to an adult single size bed. It's inside of a daybed frame (completely surrounded on three sides) but we sawed the wood legs to where the bed is only off the floor to the height of a toddler bed so she could climb in and out as she needed, and we have an extra long mesh guard so she doesn't fall out at night, so only about a foot of her bed is accessible for her to climb out when she wakes up in the morning or after a nap. It's worked out amazingly for us so far and she's been using it over a month now.
Here is a photo of our set up, excuse the baby powder on the rail lol, Em had fun with the bottle of baby powder this morning :haha:

We went straight to a single bed with both kids and never had any problems

We went from the cotbed to a proper single bed as we already had the single bed in our house. However we were then offered a toddler bed by the people that live over the road from us so we thought that we might as well (mainly because we were having students so would of needed to buy another bed anyway). Daniel's a tall lad and he fits in it just fine. I really wouldn't of bothered with a toddler bed if we hadn't been given one. When we move Esther it will be straight into a proper bed.

ETA - oh and we never put any sides on it either and he only fell out of it about twice.

My son is straight into single bed, We don't try to put him into toddler beds at all. We didn't use rails, just put an inflatable bedroll and couple of blankets on the floor for the first few weeks.

We got Earl a Toddler bed as he was only 15 months old and we didn't want him to be too far off the ground etc. He still fits in it and I reckon we'll get until he's 3 out of it (and we'll move this LO into it when they're ready lol).

When the time comes we'll be putting Millicent into a single bed and getting a guard thinggy :) xx

Ellis went straight into a single bed at 2years, 2months. We put 2 guards on for safely so the whole length is covered.

ikea does toddler beds that are 165cm (cot bed is 140) so its right between toddler and single, perfect i think.

We put Niamh straight into a low, leather single bed. I just think toddler beds are a waste of money.
