Hello ladies,
This is probably me being a bit dense but I have these dispensers to use when going out (LO is on aptamil comfort and I can't get cartons to use when we're out which would be a lot easier!) I sterilise them in my steam steriliser but no matter how far in advance I do them, they are still damp from condensation on the inside.
How do I make sure they are dry before I put the powder in!?

dry them with kitchen roll, as long as they are clean it will be ok. The milk powder isnt sterile anyway x ETA: so you can just wash them in hot soapy water and not sterilise them

Thank you both, didn't even think about the milk powder not being sterile! :dohh:

I also use kitchen roll. As long as they have been washed in hot soapy water they are fine.

dishwasher and kitchen roll for me, I don't sterilise as the milk isn't sterile xxx

If you add formula powder to water than is no cooler or hotter than around 70 degrees it sterlises the powder itself. This is how the WHO recommends to make up formula feeds x

BTW to get that temp you boil the water and allow to stand in kettle for 30 minutes x

I have a question about these as I was planning on using them aswell sorry to gatecrash this is probably a stupid question but on the box it says to boil kettle and add water to the bottle put thew formula in the dispenser and take with you and add the powder when needed when out and about. I thought that the formula needed to be added when the water was hot to kill the bacteria in the formula or is this ok because the water is sterilised?t

This will answer all ur Q's about formula preparation x

It does need to be hot, see the above link on the correct method for making bottles

The WHO guidelines do state this is the above link i posted....

What if I do not have access to boiling water?

The safest way to prepare a feed is using water that has been boiled
and cooled to no less than 70ºC.
• If you do not have access to boiling water, you may wish to use sterile
liquid infant formula.
• Alternatively, you can prepare feeds using fresh, safe water at room
temperature and consume immediately.
• Feeds prepared with water cooler than 70ºC should not be stored
for use later.

• Throw away any left-over feed after two hours.

I use kitchen roll too, I don't think you have much choice!!
x

thats helpful about not being able to use boiling water shanandboc - so long as you use sterile water you can just tip the ready measured formula in the bottle no matter what temp it is as long as you use it straightaway - assuming you can do this and then warm the bottle up too?? I.e. for night feeds, using te powder dispensers with the formula premeasured out and sterile water in the bottle, add the formula to the bottle when needed and shake well, then warm up?

thanks hun she wont have it room temp lol fussy little munchkin!

Right I got some of these and there's one thing I'm unsure of - the water you put in the bottle is sterile and needs to have cooled (though I use boiling and then leave to cool on the kitchen side), then you put your formula in the dispensers and into the bottle but surely having not sterilised them and then resting them in the kitchen counter while measuring each scoop before adding in to the bottle reintroduces bacteria..???

basically they are a good idea in theory but not very practical.

Think I'll stick with premaking and storing in the fridge lol x
