I've posted this in the FF area too but just wondering if you ladies could help too..

I'm expressing via bottle and using Tommee Tippee bottles. Isaac is on the stage 1 teats and they've been working fine since we got him home but over the last few days they've been blocked.

When I've warmed his bottle up and then checked the temp and teat opening the milk doesn't seem to be coming out. Isaac is getting very frustrated when he's due a feed and last few times I've prepared well tried to get his bottled ready before he's waking up and that's when I'm finding the blocking, so gives me extra time to change bottle etc! I've had to use a MAM bottle I got as a freebie for the moment and just keep sterilising that as soon as he's finished a feed.

I clean the bottles before hand and before they got in the steriliser so I can't see why the teat is getting blocked.

Anyone else had the same problem?

How can I get rid of the blocking?

We're on size 2 teats but I find this, I usually have to give the bottle a shake to loosen it. It's a pain in the bum and I'm not sure why they do this.

I've shaken them, changed the teats, rinsed them and then added them back to the bottle; nothing seems to be working at all and Isaac just gets more and more frustrated :\.

 Sorry darl I really don't know. I use advent 0+ when I express and they don't block.

We had this problem too. Theres two tips I have though...
1 - When your baby takes the bottle, theres a 'vent' on the bottle teat which allows air to flow freely (TT closer to nature bottles), make sure its facing his nose as that gets the air flowing preventing blocks and preventing the teat to go in on itself
2 - For one of our teats that didn't work from the tip above, we took a pin (saftey pin, corkboard pin etc) and just pushed it through the hole incase it was any plastic etc blocking the way, this worked for us and weve had no trouble since

xx

Thanks Ella&Lyla I'll try that :). Hopefully that will work if not we've got a Event bottle teat to use and I'll have to go shopping tomorrow and get a new set of bottles! :) x

yeah make sure aswell that when you have heat the milk up and shook the bottle unscrew the lid and let all the air out as this can cause blockage, thats what happened to us xx

Is it that Isaac can't get any out? If so..maybe you could try a different size? We had to move Oliver up pretty quickly to size 2 when he came home from NICU as the flow was just too slow and he was either tiring himself out or getting frustrated. Took him a few days to get used to size 2 but it was fine after that.

I just used to have to squeeze the end of the teat and it opened up.
We use MAM ones, love them :flower:

When i heat up his milk i use the tommee caps, shake the milk then put the teat on and then do the heat and drip test..

so there shouldn't be air in and it's when i test the dripping the milk isn't coming out.. all the teats do it got 4 of them all stage 1..
