My 4 week old loved the beco carrier i am hiring until a week ago when I wore her on a hot day and she developed a nasty heat rash. She still has it so I've not put her in the carrier, but I can't get anything done at all! I have an ergo but the newborn insert is basically a big quilt, and I've been leant a Moby a neighbour but its several layers of fabric.. Is there any way to wear my baby who will not be put down without her overheating?

What are you dressing her in? Solarweave Connectas are very cool. I also find a muslin between her and my chest stops us both getting too sweaty!

She was in a thin cotton sleep suit with no vest, I've since bought short sleeved cotton rompers but then I worry about sun exposure! :dohh: I'll look up the solar weave, I hope the sling library has one/something as I can't afford to buy another carrier!

I never used the infant insert in my ergo, I just rolled up a muslin blanket and put it under her bum to boost her up and that worked just fine for us from the time she was 6 days old. I think it's hard to wear an infant that young in the heat because they need to be pressed right against your body for support. We took Isla to Mexico when she was 10 weeks old and couldn't wear her at all because it was just too hot. When they get a bit older you can wear them on your hip so they have more air circulating around them, once Isla was about 3 months old I started using the hiking backpack with her when it was hot out so she wasn't pressed against my body.

I lived in San Diego while my two were teeny ( so just beside Mexico) and I did baby wear. I had an Ergo Sport for when they were bigger but when young used an infantino stretch mai tai. I'd dress them in just one thin cotton layer my preference was actually to have long sleeves and trousers on them for sun protection. I also made sure I wore cotton and that we had no skin on skin contact as it just made us sweat more. If baby started seeming uncomfortable I'd take them out but their were normally Ok for long stretches.

It probably helps if you live somewhere hot and so baby is accustomed to the heat. Going from Canada in winter to Mexico was a bit of a shock to Isla's little system and it took her a while to adjust to the heat!

I've got a constant sweaty hot potato baby. haha. cannot wear him in summer.

Mine were summer babies in NZ and I had them naked (bar a nappy), and used a parasol or pretty umbrella for the sun.

I think it's lillebzby that do one where the back zips down so it is mesh and plenty of air can circulwte around the baby. Connecta solar weaves are even better as there is no padding on the waist strap so less sweaty for you as well. I found when DS was still little enough to need the bottom cinching in that a ribbon worked better than the strap it comes with as it was more gentle of DS legs. If you like ring slings there is a fil up which is a mesh ring sling.

My LO is 7 months. I wear her in mei tai and it does make me hot but not really her. She is always just in sleeveless dress or shorts and tee in the heat. If you go out just pop sunhat on little one and some sun cream on their arms, legs and feet (can even apply while they sleep so long as I rock or move while doing it). Alternatively you could hold umbrella over you both for shade (saw lots of parents doing this with and without babies at sports day and no one batted an eyelid)

I was interested to see someone above makes sure not to have their skin touching LO so as not to feel hot. Reason being, the advice is to always have a part of you touching little one skin to skin as it helps baby to regulate their body temp. For us it usually is LOs face touching my chest while she sleeps.
