My midwife asked me if I wanted a homebirth when I was booked in - I was only 8 weeks pregnant at the time and had just read the booklet I'd been sent advising against it (it's my first baby). However, as time has gone on I've felt more and more like I would like homebirth. My pregnancy has been straightforward.

I really don't like hospitals at all. I went to see my local hospital today and although they definitely seem to try and make things nice, I really don't want to go there. I felt really out of place and stupid. I can't image being able to relax there when just the thought of it makes me go in to petulant toddler mode.

I am currently 36+2 and I'm seeing my midwife on Tuesday. Do you think it's too late to ask for a homebirth?

Hi ya hun, no your not too late at all to book a homebirth. Some midwives dont even like to talk about birth plans until 36 weeks. I would definately check out the Homebirthers and Hopeful discussion group in my signature, its fab and its a really supportive thread with lots of info.

No my Midwife wouldn't even discuss a home birth with me until i was 37weeks because before then they don't allow home birth as your classed at 'pre term' (well in my area its 37weeks) so id deffo ask about it at the next apt! x

Go for it! I didn't really discuss homebirth with my midwife until my 36 week appointment and that was fine. My next appointment will now be at home so she can go through a birth plan with me.

you should be fine to talk to her bout it an get it sorted!! my mw didnt fill out any of the forms til i was 36weeks so i really would have thought it would be fine to get her to sort it for you!

i dont think its too late for you, it is for me lol so unless this one arrives so quickly i dont have time to get to the MW unit 5 min up the road then im heading up there

I stil haven't written down on my paperwork if I want a homebirth or hospital. She asked me when I first went at 7 weeks and I said I didn't know and she said we'd discuss it later. Never heard anything else!

As the girls have said it's not too late as they like to see how your pregnancy has panned out before getting to the nitty gritty.

Come and talk to other home birthers and hopefuls in the discussion group we have here on BnB :D

It shouldnt be too late at all hun...I have been sure since TTC that I wanted a home birth...due to distance from hospital and having a very rapid birth last time and not liking hospital very much.

It was mentioned briefly at my 8w appointment that was what i wanted and she said we'd discuss it at my 31w check. The last few checks i have made sure i have mentioned it so it doesnt get forgotten and she is saying that we discuss birth plans and organise the home birth at 34 week check, but she did say that some do it later, so i would definately ask hun xxxx
