My midwife has told me i'm too late for Gest blood test so now I have to do a weeks worth of finger prick tests? has anybody ever had this experience before? I am almost 35 weeks and they have found glucose in my urine twice.

I didnt think there was a too late, or a too early either? It shouldnt matter what gestation you are, if you have GD, bloods results from the test would tell you. Heck I just did mine at 7.5 weeks (history of gd).

Can you insist on the test to someone else, another midwife or doctor maybe.

They are saying I am too late for the test where you have bloods taken, drink the sugary drink then have more bloods two hours later. Apparently I have to go and learn to prick my finger three times a day for a week to monitor my bloods which seems very extreme as I'm not over weight, there is no history of it in my family and I have no symptoms at all :(

I know what the tests are, I have done pleeeenty of them myself :haha:

You would think they would just give you the test. A few hours with results back same day VS a week of finger pricking to see how your sugars are. Seems a little crazy to me!

thats weird i have just been diagnosed with polyhydramnios so have to have a 2nd gtt to check ive not developed diabetes since the last test, im getting the 2hour one tomorrow

I think we are at the mercy of the national health. When I broke down in floods of tears my husband asked why we couldn't have the two hour test they told us it was ineffective this late in pregnancy. Who knows! It all seems very wishy washy and not clear at all. My finger prick tests were all clear so it's a mystery to the glucose in urine and not in blood.
