Hi ladies,

just wanted to get some opinions really.

I'm definitely going to be going back to college to re-train as a veterinary nurse. Rather than if, it's a question of when. Now, obviously it's not going to be this year! (baby number 2 due in May) lol So the earliest I would be able to go is in 2013. I will 30 in September 2013 and I have had a couple of 'comments' about the fact that that is too old to re-train.

Thing is, my hubby and I are considering having another baby after this one, so I would potentially not start until 2014 or even 2015 if baby takes it's time. I may start the course then take a break, but would rather not. If it takes til 2015 I'll be 32.

Now my opinion is that at 32, I'll have to do a 2 year course so will be 34 by the time I'm qualified. The pension age in this country for people my age will be at least 67 so I'll have 33 years of working left. Now, forgive me, but that's a long time lol. Surely 34 isn't too old to be embarking on a totally new career (plus it's a vocational course, so will be in the workplace from day 1).

Anyone else doing anything similar? Had any comments, or got an opinion?

Go for it!
You are never too old for anything and like you said its vocational so you go straigt into working
Good Luck x

I'd say go for it as well..... I think you will be at an advantage having had more life experience!!!
x

Definatly go for it! My mam retrained when she was 48 and is now doing a job she loves.
Good luck.xxx.

Go for it! I am thinking of doing the same to retrain in another field.......not sure what though!

You're not too old at all! Go for it - you have plenty of working years left ahead of you...I know someone who retrained at 60.

I am almost 29 and at university training to be a nurse. My ode friend is 38 and will be 40 when we qualify. There are more mature students as they call us then younger ones. Go for it, we all have many years till we can retire, use these years doing a job you love x

Go for it, it's never too late! I looked into doing the same thing a couple of years ago so i was about 29 at the time, before i got pregnant again, and the lady i spoke to at the college said they like having older students as you are more likely to be dedicated and take it seriously etc.

Definately go for it... Am considering retraining myself and i have a few years on you. Your definately not too old. As you say, still over 30 years of working ahead of you yet, which is a long time :-(
Good luck

Absolutely go for it!

My nan is retired and in her 3rd year of a part time law degree. She said she will never stop learning as it keeps her brain going! x
