Hi

My LO is 5 weeks old. While there was a time she nursed for 30 minutes every 3 hours she now nurses 15 minutes every hour. My supply is quite good now so i was wondering if the frequent nursing was because she is getting too full on the foremilk and not getting much hindmilk. (she doesnt really empty my breast in that time frame). I burp her to get the gas out but that doesnt seem to be the issue. She usually stops by passing out to sleep. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hard to tell 5 weeks seems to be right around a growth spurt too so that could be why your lo is nursing more frequent. I noticed that too much foremilk can cause tummy aches, fussiness, and green poop have you noticed any of that?

Yes she has fussiness and tummy ache all the time (cries, moans and groans) but no green poo...
Is green poo a "must" indicator of imbalance?

I'm not sure its a must but it is fairly common. The kellymom site has good information on it id check out that site that's where I look when I have questions and a lot of ladies here recommend that site as one of the most informal sites.

How long did the nursing for 30 minutes every three hours last? That sounds unbelievable for a newborn. Could it have been part of the sleepy newborn stage where they sleep for ages and you sometimes have to wake them to feed. Both mine were like that but before too long they began to display what I would class as typical newborn behaviour which is feeding almost non stop around the clock to get your supply well and truly established. It does sound like your baby is displaying typical newborn behaviour. Lots of people told me that it would last around six weeks. With Mickey it lasted nearly ten weeks but he is now happy to go a couple of hours between feeds x
