Dentist agreed today that Paiges tooth should be removed. She has an extra canine on the upper right side of her mouth and due to adult teeth coming in, it has been pushed up so that it is horizontal, and above her other teeth.
I'm assuming she will just get a local anaesthetic, but how are extractions in children? Do they take long, how painful for child? Healing time?

She doesn't particularly like the dentist but tries to put on a brave face but this tooth needs to come out. (it is completely intact, only coming out due to lack of space and the way it sits)

Assuming it is a baby tooth it wont have any deep set roots so it should just pop out, it shouldnt take too long once she is numbed up and once numb she shouldnt feel anything other than pushing and tugging and it should heal as quickly as losing any other baby tooth.

Maria had a tooth out in the summer, they just used local anaesthetic but it did take quite a while but that's probably because she kept asking them to stop so they'd stop and wait for her to be ready to try again.

My DD had one out when she was 2.5 so they had to pop her under a GA in the hospital Day Surgery but she was in theatre honestly two minutes? It popped right out and healed up real fast. All she had to do was avood drinking from a straw and eating hard, hot or very cold food for the rest of the day.

Also I don't think she was really in much pain at all, though hers was a broken & dead tooth which caused an abscess so it was probably a relief for it to be gone.

Thanks everyone. It's just a baby tooth so hopefully nice and easy to get out. I'm most worried about the local anaesthetic... she won't be best pleased when she realises that she needs an injection!

I think the injections are the worst bit, but they have a numbing cream now that makes it much more bearable. Maybe get her to close her eyes if she doesn't like needles, as I think the "idea" of it is worse than the reality. I had 4 baby teeth out and it was quick and healing was easy.
