Hi there,

I am completely confused and could do with some advice.

I have had 3 miscarriages, had blood tests and a Ultrasound over a 2yr period. The ultrasound showed a fibroid which has increased in size since my first scan.

I recently had a failed HSG scan which was not successful because of my retroverted womb. I went private to do this. I was advised by the private hospital that an alternative to the HSG would be a laparoscopy. I looked in to going private for the laparoscopy but decided that it was a little too expensive.

My notes were sent back to my NHS doctors at the fertility clinic. I spoke to them to see what the next step should be. They advised me that a laparoscopy had risks of infection, bleeding amongst other things.

I was advised that I should go for IVF because they don't need to use my tubes for implant of fertilised eggs.

My concern is this. I was able to get pregnant but not remain pregnant. If they are not sure about the state of my womb how sensible is it to go ahead with IVF?

Has anyone else had this? What did you do and was successful? I have to make up my mind about this after my next ultrasound scan.

Also I need to loose 2kg. No weight is shifting even with exercise and I cannot start IVF if my BMI is too high. Are there any good diets out there that work? I am already exercising but probably not enough. My weight seems to be going up not down.

Hi, a lap does have risks but they are minimal. Do they want to remove the fibroid? Many people say chances of pregnancy are higher after a lap. Any other questions about a lap just ask me, I had one about 6 weeks ago. X x not sure about the weight loss but personally I find that exercise slows down any weight loss and can even stop me losing weight while I'm exercising! Weird. You tried slimming world diet?... x

Hi thanks for responding. I just had my ultra sound and they've said that the fibroid is sat outside of my womb away from the lining. I'm not sure what the docs will do about the fibroid. I've already said to the doc that I want the lap because it will give me peace of mind if nothing else. I also want to know that when we start trying again I got everything checked out.

How long did it take you to get your lap?
I've read about it. As far as I remember it said you go under local anesthetic. How long did it take to recover from your Lap?

I've been to the doc about the weight loss and got a doctors refer to loose the pounds. 2 kg is all they want me to loose but I'm gonna try to get down to a healthy weight. I'm gonna do Weight Watchers and monitored exercise. Meaning at the start I get a exercise programme set up for and then they'll monitor me every now and then.

Fingers crossed things will start looking up.

Cheers again for giving me some advice. It really helped.

You're welcome.
I had to go private to get my lap done, cause the NHS docs refused to look into my pelvic pain any more.... Think I could have got it done 2/3 weeks after seeing the consultant, but I opted for a better date so waited about 5/6 weeks..
Mine was general anaesthetic; think most of them are. I had it on the Friday night and was kind of laid up all weekend, but I could move about. I went back to work the following Wed, but probably should have waited a bit more....
Good luck
Feel free to ask anything else x x

Hi Ladylion- I also had a miscarriage at 6 weeks after which the doc insisted I go in for a Lap. there was nothing apparently wrong with me- my u/s was clear, HSG showed that tubes were open, I ovulate regularly etc. I also considered going in straight for IVF but am glad I opted for Lap. I was diagnosed with Grade 3 endo, mild PCO and there was congestion in my tubes bcos of an infection. The doc took out most of the endo and I was on antibiotics for the infection. I also had ovarian drilling done for PCO. I am trying an IUI this cycle but still might need an IVF as the infection has damaged the tubes. But I feel better now that the problem has been diagnosed and feel confident that the treatment will work better.

Lap is not bad at all. I was sore for about 3-4 days. Within a week I was feeling normal and in 2 weeks I dont even feel like I went in for a surgery. Lap is always done under General Anesthesia which for me was the most difficult cos I react very badly to GA. Otherwise it was all fine. All the best

Thanks Looknomore for that information. I feel I can't just go for IVF without making sure that there aren't any other factors that might affect my ability to carry a baby. I recently had my u/s and they've found the expected the fibroid. It was clear of the lining of my womb but large all the same.

I will insist on a lap when I talk next to the docs. I did feel as though I was been pushed to had IVF as a way of them saving costs. Where I am it is £4,000 a time. I can't part with that money without knowing that they've caught any possible infections.

I talk to the doc find out what effects a fibrod outside the womb can have on a pregnancy.

I just thought I'd I had my lap and dye about 3 weeks ago. The surgeon said that they would remove anything that could affect my fertility whilst they did the scan. So I got my fibroids removed. It's taken over 3 weeks to recover but I feel a lot better. My tubes weren't blocked and they couldn't find anything else. I'll go back for my check up by christmas and hopefully we can start try. The method to be confirmed. Meaning IVF or not.
