As if it isn't hard enough for a teacher to choose (all those hundreds of memories!)

We chose a boy's name before conception... and it didn't matter that it was our neighbour's name, as we rarely see them (they don't even know we're expecting, and I'm huge!) Until a week ago when he had a go at OH over nothing!!! Really leaves a bad taste in our mouth now!

So we thought of another, and this afternoon have just remembered someone with the same name who once ripped us off!!

Back to the drawing board... hopefully it won't happen with the girl's name we chose too!

Trouble is too, everyone we know has known our name choices from day one, didn't see any point not telling them tbh, and now it could all change!

Search is on for a traditional boy's name.... trawling through those books I never needed before!

I just wanted to offer some sympathy! as a teacher too i find i cant use any names of a child i have taught, even if i liked that child i still cant use the name as it reminds me of them!

Will you tell us what the names of the evil neighbour and the dude who ripped you off are? Maybe someone can suggest something similar that you'll just love?

Yeah, even the nice kids, you don't want to think of them each time you look at yours! I'm sure it wouldn't happen, but never too careful!

Amy... Jack originally, and then Matthew (like Matt for a teenager etc.!) Thinking maybe Thomas (Tom) now?

Thomas is nice. And I LOVE Matthew and know a really really wonderful one! Guess that doesn't make up for the one that screwed you over? :D

Thomas is a good name!!! I've never taught a naughty Thomas however have taught lots of naughty Jacks!! I found it so hard!!

I think I've only taught 'square' Thomas's though?!

OH isn't bothered either way obviously!! Matthew is cool, we're trying to get over the Jack and Matthew thing...

Love love LOVE Thomas

Thomas is so cute for a little boy....then can be changed to Tom/Tommy as they get older. It's one of my choices for a boy! x

Not at all related to either Jack or Matthew but how about William. V traditional and can be Billy when he's little (V cute) and then Will/William when he grows up if he doesn't like Billy. I've known a few William's and they've all been quite cool.

xxxxxxx

William's cool... we think this may end up being a middle name.. his side's family tradition! It might be a bit strange, or good? having a William or Christopher (first born always *** William, second born always *** Christopher!) as they feature in all the male names.

I'm funny about them though, the baby will be having OH's surname, and it's taken a good few months for me to come to terms with that (not married, won't due to differing beliefs) so giving a boy a first or middle name from his family too makes me feel like we're 'ignoring' my side iykwim! My side hasn't got any good names...

We talked at length about it again last night, and the state of play at the moment is we'll wait to see... if it's a boy, it hopefully will look more like a Jack or Thomas or Matthew or William or Christopher than any of the other names!

Oh, it's Charlotte Sarah for a girl... got a 32wk scan this afternoon and won't find the gender again (team yellow) but may get a feel for something looking at 'Smudge' again!

Hehe! He's gorgeous too!

Didn't get to see the face at my scan yesterday, Smudge was head down, with back to us, so that didn't help! (Placenta has moved though, so I don't have to have a C-section - yey!)

I know what you mean about picking names. I am a teacher too and its so difficult to think of names and try not to relate to a child, Have you been on one of the 'name' websites and had a look?
xx

I love Thomas Dhs name...my friedn has a cat called Thomas :D

I know what you mean with teachers and names sooo many are out.....both mothers are teachers too so its very difficult!!

Pinkgirl, I've been on a few sites, and got a book too.. I'm shocked that I'm having to do this as we decided sooooo long ago! Still hoping for Jack to feel good again really...

jem_5500, both mothers too?! OMG, that's a tough one!!!

I sympathise! I'm a teacher too (reception) and I always loved the name Molly but then a couple of years ago I taught a very naughty Molly and now I could never use it! I also like Skye and had considered it seriously for my baby but on my class list for September there is the first ever Skye I've taught in 11 years so I guess that's out the window now too .

Molly or Mollie is so cute! My little sister is called that and is a very good girl!

I'm having difficulty with boys names theres just too many I can't use because of teaching...damn kids!!

The Oh always wanted jack but I've vetoed it as its way too common but he's rubbish at coming up with anything else but he's vetoed about 10 of my suggestions.

The only one'd we can agree on are Stanley and Nate. I prefer Nate but he doesnt want to use it as we know someone who has a boy called Nate (although they live in another county and we never see them!) he prefers Stanley but I'm no sure!
