My LO is 23 weeks.
He sits well - can do 20/30 secs on his own but likes being up right in chairs/pram etc.

He's got great hand mouth co-ordination & I'm pretty sure if he could reach some days he would take the food out of my hands.

I'm pretty sure he's ready to wean so I tried a bit of baby rice to see how he took it - he seemed really happy with having the food but more came back out than went in & his tounge was pretty much sticking out whilst he tried to eat it so I'm pretty sure he hasn't lost his tounge thrust - but when will he be ready?

He's 6 months in 3 weeks - I cant get my head round being able to just hand him toast etc on 17th June but not the 16th! I can't see him getting any better over night.

My eldest was about 22 weeks when I started TW & he's the cleanest eater I know - nothing gets waisted and never has - even friends used to comment on how well he ate!

LO dropped %tiles when I got him weighed last. I know HV said not to worry - he's been EBF up to now & he will start gaining weight again when we start weaning but at this rate we are never gonna get started!

Am I bring too impatient?

Yep! I don't know exactly when Robyn's tongue thrust went, but we tried her with veg 1 day before she turned 6 months and she didn't eat any, just played. The next day we gave her pasta and she ate some. So her tongue thrust had definitely gone by 6 months.

I'd put some food in front of him and see what he does! Soft cooked fruit and veg at first, until he's 6 months. If he's not ready he won't eat it.

My LO is about two weeks older and I started trying rice cereal with her and she loves it!

I gave her a bit of cereal and when she opens her mouth I put the spoon above her tongue and kinda wipe the spoon onto her top gums.

In the first few days, she still sticks her tongue out, took about a week and she lost the tongue thrust reflex. I guess now she knows to only use her tongue when she sees my nipple :haha:

I'd wait a few weeks its usually gone around 6 months but thy mean some babies to will be gone at 5 moths 2 weeks and other maybe won't be gone until 6 months or later .

If its still there I would let up on trying to feed solids . One of the signs of food readiness is actually the tongue thrust being gone

My LO went sometime between 5-6 months but she was still nowhere near ready for solids and refused all food.
