Had appointment with the midwife today and baby is still transverse - has been like this for the last few weeks at least. It is really uncomfortable as its head is right up near my ribs on the right hand side as I look down, and its feet keep kicking my ribs on the other side. On the plus side I'm not needing the loo very much!

The midwife gave me a few positions for me to get in to try to encourage the baby to move head down, but I'm not feeling very optimistic as it seems to be quite settled where it is.

Has anyone had success in getting their baby to turn after being transverse for so long? Any ideas gratefully received!

Fundal measurement was 29cm so if that hasn't increased much in the next 2 weeks they will send me for a growth scan to check things out -but i think the measurement is mostly down to the baby's position as my bump shaped more like a mushroom than being out front.

I dnt have any personal experience to offer but I hear swimming anf the use of a birthing ball can help with getting babies in better positions. I'd get a birthing ball and google some positions. I have a birth ball from birth ease and its fab and comes with some exercises inc ones to help get baby into a better position. Worth a try if ur really uncomfortable x

I am 32+2 and bubs has been transverse since my 20 week scan. I never get kicks in the ribs and never need the loo a hundred times a day, I also can't bend at all and reversing the car is getting really tricky as I can barely turn to look over my shoulder. I have got a birthing ball and I have been reading the spinning baby website for tips, just need to get off my bum and try some of the things they suggest. I have a scan and consultants appointment in 4 weeks so I would like a head down baby by then!

Mine's also still transverse at 32 weeks, well as far as I know. Haven't felt a change of position but have my next mw appt Monday so hoping for some spinning action! I've used the inversion (hanging off the sofa!) on the spinning babies website. Anything where you are tipping you uterus upsidedown can be helpful.

I've also heard really good things about moxibustion, which you might want to look up. I don't think you can do that until maybe 34 weeks anyway so try the other stuff first. But I will be trying that if I get desperate. Would be a shame not to be able to have a natural labour. Especially after all the money I've spent on ante-natal classes / yoga / relaxation / hypnobirthing CDs etc etc!

Hinky we are starting our Hypnobirthing classes on Monday so I really don't fancy wasting a couple of hundred pounds either, so as of then, operation turning baby will commence!

Don't give up hope; mine was breech for ages then transverse for nearly 2 weeks and she's only just moved head down 2 days ago when I reached 35 weeks. I have been using a birthing ball and been doing quite a bit of walking, not sure if it helped, but there's still plenty of time for your LO to turn down. GL

My baby was transverse at 30 weeks (and my fundal measurement was 27cm because if this!) but by my 34 week appointment she was head down. I wouldn't worry too much at 33 weeks, your baby still has some room to move around xx

Hi there i was the same with my first baby she was transverse at 33 weeks after my midwife appointment i went home a used a torch shining it on my belly which encouraged the baby to turn towards the light. When i went the midwife at 34 weeks she had turned into head down and was born at 36+5 no problem.

Thanks girls, I bought a birthing ball on saturday but on Sunday managed given that i can't really see my feet to stand on it my mistake and fall backwards over it, slam my head/back into the wall/door and then land on the floor on my back/arse..... baby moved around after a few minutes of mad panic that i had done some damage. Fortunately the damage was just to me - back, arm, shoulder all bruised...

so not very successful so far! but i'll keep trying. Moxibustion sounds interesting - not heard of that before but will google!

x
