Hello to all,
I am set to go back to work in 2 weeks. My son will be 4 months old then. My husband and I are trying to figure a way to avoid starting him in daycare. My mother can watch him 2 days but that would mean drastically cutting back my work schedule. I am praying we can make it work. I just read the book, Doing Time: What It Really Means To Grow Up In Daycare and it has really opened my eyes. Thoughts? Has anyone else made part-time work work for them?

Can I ask what your reasons are for avoiding stating LO in daycare?
There is research that suggests that daycare settings are very beneficial for children.
Perhaps you could work say 3 days. If your from the UK, you would get financial help from the government.

I agree that keeping daycare to a minimum is a good thing (what we do with Earl) but I wouldn't say that I would actively avoid it. What are your reasons for this? Is it cost or is it the environment?

If you're not happy about a nursery style environment could you get a home-based childcare like a childminder or a nanny?
