Hello. Me and my husband are trying to conceive #1. I went off the depo shot about 6-7 months ago. My period still has not returned. I recently visited a fertility specialist to seek help. To bring my period back....She put me on 5 days of estrogen pills then 7 days of provera. My last provera pull was 10 days ago... Still nothing. She said this is usually effective. Were giving it 4 more days... If nothing... Hoping she ups the dosage maybe? Prior to me being on the depo I did have regular periods and have conceived in the past and it happens super easy. Any suggestions in bring a period back faster? Desperate for help, this is completely depressing that it just isn't happening after 4 years of convincing my husband now is the right time, he finally agreed... Now this.... I'm horrified. I find many days it's hard to get out of bed now because I'm do depressed about this and it's lately all I think about. Usually a happy, chipper, smiley person. It's just so difficult seeing all my friends already having a second child and I can't even have a 1st. A child could not come into a more loving home. It's just beyond stressful. Any suggestions about other ways to try to get my period back, effectiveness of provera given to get period back etc... Anything encouraging would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for listening to me vent

I recommend trying acupuncture :-) A lot of people find it very effective for regulating cycles, restarting cycles and for reproductive health in general. Good luck!

Provera is normally pretty good about starting a withdrawal bleed, but it's fairly common to have to wait ~two weeks after finishing it, so don't worry too much just yet. If you *don't* start in 4-5 days, take an HPT just to rule out the possibility of pregnancy, then you could always try acupuncture like spiritbear suggests, or if that isn't possible for you for whatever reason, your doctor will probably do some blood work and you can always ask whether they might use Prometrium-- a natural rather than a synthetic form of progesterone-- to see if it makes a difference. There are also various herbs and oils many women swear by to regulate their cycles, but I'm less familiar with those.

It is also possible that you developed a cyst or something making your hormones wonky, so even if an HPT is negative and your withdrawal bleed doesn't come, there are a number of things that are essentially harmless (if frustrating) that usually resolve themselves but can effect even induced cycles. I'm sure your specialist will figure out what is going on!
