Hi fashionlover, I am so sorry that you and your husband are going through this. My husband has prostate cancer and is pending radiation, hormone therapy, and seed implants.
My research on the treatment options thus far recommend sperm banking before beginning anything for optimal fertility. Of course, the oncology folks don't always to a great job regarding talking about loss of fertility. They are very focused on trying to eliminate the cancer at all costs, so they often overlook the other life details. It makes sense at the time, but once you beat cancer and go on to live your life, fertility can become an issue.
If your husband has one remaining testicle, they can sometimes due direct sperm extraction from the remaining testicle and analyze the sperm for optimal selection before completing IVF with a harvested egg from you. This is assuming that he has trouble producing a quality specimen the way men with prostate cancer do. Prostate cancer treatment causes a decline in semen production due to scaring of the prostate from radiation, so men will often make sperm, but they can't travel from the testicles.
Either way, I hope that you guys are able to find a wonderful fertility specialist, if you need them. It's still possible to get pregnant the old fashion way too, if both testicles weren't involved. Best wishes and baby dust to you
