Hello,

I've been Googling the heck out of this. I've found clues for some pieces of the puzzle, but I'm a little confused about my husband's semen analysis and was wondering if anyone would like to pipe up and help me figure out what all of this means! (I apologize if this is answered somewhere else, but I've been unable to really figure out what the overall picture is for us.)

Here's what I have in front of me right now; from what I understand, at least one red flag is the 38% motility ("normal" appears to be more like 50%). *Thank you* in advance to anyone who might be able to help me understand this!

Volume (ml) -- 5.3
Concentration x 1 million -- 41
% Motile -- 38
Progression -- 1+
pH -- 7.0
Viscosity -- Normal (whew! this one at least I understand!)
% Normal Morphology -- 8
Round Cells x 1 million -- 0
WBC x 1 million -- N/A
Total Motile Sperm x 1 million -- 83

P.S. My doctor said the following about the above results: "Looks good." (I only just got the actual numbers today, along with some other paperwork, because we are going to make our first appointment at a fertility clinic.)

I'm mostly curious if any of you think, "Uh oh, these numbers are bad" or "This doesn't look so bad," etc. I can Google each individual term, of course, but sometimes the medical sites are so cold and full of jargon and I would just like to hear a *human being's* opinion of these results :)

I don't know if this will be helpful to you but I use donor sperm and get a one page data sheet from my clinic on the day of insemination.

The categories are below and my donor's numbers/results are in red:

Volume:
adequate >1.5ml
low 0.6-1.4 ml
very low <0.5ml X

Qualitative Count:
adequate > 15 M/ml 151M/ml
low 6-14 M/ml
very low 0.1-5 M/ml
no sperm seen

Motility:
adequate > 40% 63%
low 20-39%
very low <20%
no motile sperm seen

Qualitative Total Motile Count:
adequate >10 M 28.5 M
very low <5M
No motile sperm

Here's an online resource I found that gives "normal" ranges in the analysis of sperm

Thank you both so much for taking the time to respond! This really helps me a lot! :)
