ttc after lap op?

Hello there,

I would really like some info as I'm not sure what to do.

I had a lap op last friday, everything went ok was very sick from anaesthetic etc after the op and whilst coming round. Managed to get some tea and toast down me and drizzle on the tiolet, lol(under nurses orders)

After the nurse went all through what I should and shouldn't do after the op, she also went through my notes from the op as she said that the doctor/ Consultant had gone. From what she said it seems that they found no endometriosis and that I had to go back and see him in after. I asked the nurse when we could have intercourse as obviously we want to get the 'ball rolling'. She replied when the bleeding has stopped and your not in pain.

Ok, so 5 days later and I seem to be ok, first day was a little in pain but it's getting much better. No pain in shoulders anymore. Have noticed that I seem to be going to the toilet more to pee and there was lots coming out(even though I hadn't drunk that much) also in the past few days I felt like I might be getting cystitis as there was a 'funny' sensation and also this morning went to loo to do the 'other' and really bad pain, had to lay down.
I have been to doctor this morning and she has given me antibiotics(3 day course) and I have given her a urine sample. Now my question is that-

I would obviously like to ttc as sson as possible and wonder when other ladies did this. I did ask the doc briefly if I could have intercourse and she said that I shouldn't take the antibiotics if I did and was ovulating. I'm not sure if I'm ov yet as I need to get out and buy some tests.

Just really don't know whether I should have intercourse as I have heard that after lap you can be more fertile and if I have got water infection(results back monday) will this be harmfull?

Sorry i't soo long, has anyone got any advice for me or has been in the same situation?

I was in exactly the same situation. I had my lap & dye on 3rd Dec (CD 10). The consultant didn't see me after the op, but the nurse said everything was fine and normal. I asked her if we could still TTC this month, but she said she wasn't really sure.

I did some research when I got home, and couldn't find anything to suggest it would be dangerous to TTC straight after a lap; either for me, or a baby if were to get pregnant.

So yeah, basically we have tried extra hard this month. Luckily I ovulated a little later than normal (CD 17), so we managed to get plenty of sex in. We even BD'd the day after my op .

I've heard about the supposed increased fertility straight after a lap & dye too, so I didn't want to miss out!

I think its best to talk to ur doctor if u r having any kind of pain. When i had the lap & dye done, the doctor said we can resume our TTC as soon as the bleeding and pain stops and when i feel comfortable. It took me a week to get back to 100% normal. I kept having slight pain, so i guess its different for everyone.

Dont worry that ur missing ur fertile window after the lap as i have heard that ur more fertile for the first 3 months after Lap & dye.

Hi Pixielou,

I'm glad that you got the all clear after the lap and sorry to hear about the water infection. I had my lap last month (18th Nov) and we did try that cycle. I really got my hopes up but no BFP. Back on 100mg clomid this month though so fingers crossed. All I would say is its better to stay healthy and well and wait for a month if you aren't 100%. Good luck and I'll be watching your progress. I've got a good feeling about all the recent lap and dye girls on here!
