ok, so i was on Citalopram and recently came off them thinking it was the right thing to do. However since coming off them, i had all my signs of my anxiety come back so today i decided to go back on them.

Just wondered what peoples view on this is whilst TTC, my doc always told me if the benefit to the mother was greater they would keep u on them. at the minute im just not in the right place to come off them?

What do u all think?

When i had jack i was on citalopram, and i came off them at about 10 weeks, but needed to go back on them at 35 weeks. Jack was ok. But he had to be monitord for signs of withdrawal, and i went home with a checklist of symptoms. At the time, i felt a bit awful - like a druggie tbh. But id do it all again, if it meant id stay mentally well. Theres no shame. As long as ur on a 'safe' anti-depressant, which i think citalopram is, and fluoxetine.

yes i have read that it is a safe one, my view is i wouldnt be in the right frame off mind if i wasnt on them, suffering badly with anxiety is not gonna be good for me

I would think that a stressed anxious depressed mother during pregnancy would be just as harmful to a baby. As long as they doctors say that they are safe and that is what you want/need, I think you should stay on them.

Plus if you are feeling stressed and anxious then it is going to make getting pregnant soooo much harder.

You can always do what Fedup1981 did and when you get pregnant and review things then. Perhaps come off them again for a while, if it feels right then.

At the end of the day you have to do what is best for you and your family. :hugs:

 my dr told me to stop taking them last thurs when i found out i was preg. did you ween off or stop immediatley?

Hi

I went on Citalopram a few years ago and when I decided to come off them, I was told that I had to do it very gradually. Like start by halving a dose every few days. Anyway, things happened and I ended up staying on them instead of stopping them.
When I started ttc I went to my GP and she switched them to Sertraline. I seem to recall her saying that Citalporam is ok, but that there's more documented evidence of pg women taking sertraline.
I really don't think it's a good idea just to stop taking them. You need to do it gradually and with your GPs support.

Good luck
xx

Hey haley, I was on citalopram a while back for anxiety and doc wanted me to go on it again but I told her I was ttc she said it was a safe SSRI to take while pregnant, so I wouldn't worry about it if you need it take them. I didn't end up taking them cause my anxiety was situation related and went away within 2 days. Good luck. Oh btw I am no longer doing IUI if you haven't read my journal, on wait list for ICSI.
