Hi, wondering if anyone can give me advice or if there's anyone in a similar situation. I hadnt had a period for 2 years after coming off the pill but me and hubby decided to try for a baby (i already have an 18 year old from a previous relationship and hubby also has a child from previous partner), we tried all last year and nothing was happening even though i was getting positive ovulation tests. We ended up referred to infertility clinic, both myself and hubbys test were fine and i was told to take the contraceptive pill for a month to induce a bleed then i was meant to take chlomid 5 days into the bleed. I decided against taking the chlomid due to the high chance of having a multiple birth. My period came on the 1st march and although I'm not pregnant, i havent had another. I really thought everything would be regular now since i had my period 'induced' so i can predict my ovulation and fertile days etc so basically no, we are just taking stabs in the dark (no pun intended). Im 36 next month. Hubby is 38. 2 weeks ago, i was getting lots of symptoms but turned out i had a urine infection :growlmad: Advice would be so appreciated.

Also dont even know if i am actually ovulating although i should add that sex was very painful before as (sorry for tmi) i wasn't getting lubricated down below, now Im getting tonnes of CM which to me would surely indicate everything is going as it should or not, i really dont know :(

First of all, I'm sorry for your TTC troubles. This can be a tough, emotional process. I haven't been in your situation, but I have a couple thoughts.

Did the dr you went to give you insight as to why you were not having a period? I'd hope there is a cause that could be addressed. I'm not familiar with amenorrhea, so I don't have much insight there. It does seem unusual, though.

If you want to confirm ovulation, you could start taking your basal body temperature each morning before you get out of bed. Your bbt will rise and stay higher post-ov (due to production of progesterone), so you can confirm ov. Are you familiar with this? If not, there's lots of info on the web, just google it. Ferility Friend offers a free tracking service. It's slick.

Also, if clomid could help you, you could take a low dose, like 25 mg, and be monitored to see how many follicles/eggs it stimulates. They do vaginal ultrasounds and can count the follicles. Then you could see how you respond and if you don't want to take the chance of multiples, then you would skip bd that month. But you'd have the information.

I did a 50 mg round of clomid this month and only stimulated 1 egg (I ov normally and produce 1 egg monthly already...). So I have no chance of multiples, though I hope the clomid helped things just enough (I may be deluding myself)! I was disappointed that I didn't get more eggs to give us a better chance of one good one being in the bunch. (Because of my age and my low fertility testing results, I have a low chance of multiple eggs fertilizing and implanting.)

Good luck to you!

Thank you so much for replying. I actually called the fertility clinic after my post today and she explained exactly what you did about the monitoring etc that comes with taking chlomid, this wasn't explained to me before so its good to know this information now. The absence of periods wasn't explained either, the doctor basically just said I had been taking it so long, my ovaries just stopped working and i also had high oestrogen levels. I'm like a duck out of water where ttc is concerned as obviously didn't have any of this when i was 17 with my first pregnancy so I'm really clueless :( The nurse is going to get the doctor to call me back tomorrow so hopefully that'll get things moving along. Again, thanks for the reply, i really appreciate it x

I'm glad to hear you are finding out more. There's nothing worse than feeling like you are in the dark. I would ask a lot of questions of your dr when s/he calls. Many women who are on the pill for 15-20 yrs get a period within a few months of going off it. There are several on here who have gotten pregnant not long after going off the pill after many years on it. It seems to me it's not usual for your situation to happen, but I'm not a dr. So, can they do figure out why your body is responding the way it is? And if it is, even in part, due to high estrogen levels, what can be done to balance that? The dr may have medical interventions, but you could also look into natural/herbal/homeopathic options if that is your thing. Some women have high estrogen due to nasty things in our environment called xenestrogens, which mimic estrogen and cause overload. Acupuncture can also help balance the body. Something to consider.

I did actually consider acupuncture but as soon as i did, the clinic in my area closed down :( I tried agnus cactus for a few months and also raspberry leaf tea and reflexology but no luck. I would really love my body just to regulate itself and be 'normal'. I'm not in tune with my body at all like other women and would love to be. Basically he has no idea why my period never came back. The only thing he found when i was examined was the lining of my womb was thin which he said is normal due to the fact I'm not getting periods, Amh and other blood tests all normal, ovaries look good and been told there looks to be plenty of eggs there. otherwise, I'm reasonably healthy and lead a good lifestyle so there seems no reason for all my reproductive complications. He never explained how my high oestrogen levels can be balanced and kind of fobbed me off saying thing 'should sort themselves out'. I'm in the UK so it's an NHS doctor/clinic I'm seeing, if i went private, things wold probably be made a bit clearer to me. I felt the doctor i seen actually couldn't be bothered, as stressful as his job is, i swear he yawned 5 times in my appointment!!! :)
