Hi ladies, wonder if I can join you. In experiencing my 2nd mc and due a D&C tomorrow morning. We already have a 3 year old little boy. Were keen to TTC again as we would love a sibling for our son.
I know we should wait for 1 cycle for dating purposes and the evidence is sketchy about not waiting leading to a 2nd mc even though you can be more fertile. I just wondered what your experiences were regarding how long it took to conceive after D&C and more importantly was it a successful pregnancy? Were lucky that we have conceived 3 times on cycle 1 or 2 of trying but have miscarried twice so your storues would be very welcome - thanks x

I am so sorry for your loss - it is such a hard process. I just had a D&C on Jan. 19th, it was our second loss.

I was advised to wait one cycle as well; he told me it was for dating purposes and for confirmation that my body is working properly. We have been active for about two weeks and have not prevented. I started temping and using OPK's about the time I stopped bleeding and I know about when I ovulated; dating shouldn't be that big of a problem. Also, I figure if I am able to successfully conceive, that alone is an indicator that stuff is working right. Once we made the decision to try again, I had no interest in waiting. Neither of us are spring chickens and the clock is ticking. :winkwink:

I have read success stories and I have read about repeated miscarriage. I hope we both see some feedback here.

:dust:

I'm sorry for both of your losses, ladies. :(

I had my "big" MC in August of last year, which led to a D&C for retained product (a second fertilized egg, but just a BO, no fetus in the sac) in September. My doctor advised waiting 3 months, but medically speaking, there isn't typically a need to. THAT SAID, I didn't get AF again until November, and I'm pretty sure that was an anovulatory cycle. It was basically just a couple of days of spotting. I got pregnant again in December, but lost it in January. I had what I would consider my first REAL post-D&C AF this month. Recovery, for me, took a while after the D&C, obviously. But for December/January's chemical pregnancy, I bounced right back. Your mileage may vary. Just remember that it may take a while for your hCG to drop after your D&C, so you might not even ovulate right away, and that's normal.

Good luck!

My Dr. suggested 2-3 cycles as well but said if it happened before it would probably be ok. I'm 3 weeks post D&C and I stopped spotting 2 weeks ago and we have not used protection since. Our plan is to actually start "trying" after AF shows up, but for now if it happens it happens. I can't confirm ovulation but based on EWCM and the ovulation pain I am pretty sure I o'd last week. If my body isnt ready it wont happen.... and if it does they can date it by measuring on the US, it was right on with my first US last time so I'm not worried :)

Thanks ladies, D&C is scheduled for morning, hoping its physically uneventful baby dust to all xx

Sorry for your loss blu I had a d&c for MMC 9 jan just got my first af on 11th feb , we didn't prevent before af and will definately be ttc this month so I bounced back quiet quick . goodluck xx

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this will be useful to anyone but I had my D & C last Friday. I had a scan at 10.5 weeks yesterday and found no heartbeat likely from 7 weeks.

MY OB said that if I felt emotionally ready I should not wait to TTC following the D & C. The moment you ovulate you can conceive and this may be 2 or 3 weeks post or even less. The chance of miscarrying again is not increased. Essentially if your body is ovulating it is ready to conceive again which makes sense to me! She also said you are more fertile in the couple of months following the D & C.

I rang this morning to check if I should start TTC as I still have occasional spotting (it has only been 7 days!) but as I had a relatively short cycle I want to try and 'catch' the egg. Time isn't on my side at 40! I was told I may spot for another week which is normal and there is no medical reason I shouldn't start TTC asap. Unless the bleeding is heavy, discoloured i.e. green or yellow or strange smelling it is safe. The spotting is just your body getting back in to its cycle so TTC in my case doesn't put me at risk of an infection.

Crossing fingers and toes x

Hi blu - how did your d&c go? I hope you are recovering well.
I'm interested in this too. Technically I'm cd25 after my erpc and no sign of ovulation yet.
I saw an ob/gyn friday and she said I could ttc straight away, no reason to wait.
She also thinks I have pcos and before I conceive again I'd like to lose a stone to get back to below 25bmi. I'm hoping to do that by one af lol. Here's hoping. I put that weight on in my last pregnancy.

Hi spudtastic. I had the ERPC on friday morning and was home by friday evening, initially had lots of pain but feel great today. Had a little wobble earlier when a very good friend told me ahe was pregnant and I should be 12 weeks tomorrow! Im thrilled for her but sad for me if that makes sense. I really want to TTC again soon. My bleeding seems to be resolving now so hope we can resume bedroom time by next week. Not sure how long this first cycle will be?? X

Hi Blu! We're going to ntnp this first cycle too, we were going to wait until after my first period but decided to just start again this month and if it happens it happens. Also praying this first cycle is not going to be really long or crazy! Took a pregnancy test earlier, still positive but am only 10 days out from erpc so not surprised really. Hopefully I'll see it fading soon!

My hpt is still positive and we are just over 2 weeks from erpc. Was told to check at 3 weeks by epau. We are also ntnp for now but as I am on so many drugs and steroids not sure I fancy our chances for now...

Were avoiding Bd'ing until a week on fri when ill be 2 weeks post erpc. The bleeding has stopped but im a little worried about risk of infection if we dtd before. Cant believe it takes so long to get a -ve pregnancy test - i really dont want to do one as dont really want to see a +ve or -ve result 😯

It took about a month and a half for me to test negative after my D&C. :(

I just had loss #2 as you can see in my signature. We had our d&c at 12 weeks on January 6th. On January 18th, my OB told me to wait one month and I could try again. That is tomorrow. I'll be on cd9 on my first cycle. I guess that is what he suggests, he said to let hcg levels go down. My SIL was told to wait one normal cycle after her d&c and she could start trying when her 2nd period started. She got pregnant that month and he will be 7 years old the day after tomorrow.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies, hope we all get our BFPs very soon. Hoping AF shows in the next 4 weeks x

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, blu, and that AF arrives as soon as possible so you can get back to it! :D

I hope your recovery is going well, Blu. Hopefully you are feeling okay now.

You asked for input on whether people think it is "ok" to ttc straight after the d&c, regardless of what the dr recommended. So I will tell you my experience, although I still do not think it really makes a difference.

1st pregnancy - ended in mc at 7 weeks, natural mc but MD told me to wait 3 cycles. We waited 2 cycles, and then got pregnant our 2nd month trying (so 4th cycle after mc). That pregnancy resulted in our beautiful son.

3rd pregnancy - ended in mc (chemical, I suppose) at 5 wks. Got pregnant again right away, without AF in between. So, 4th pregnancy. Ended in MMC at 11 weeks.

Because of this, and the fact that my 4th pregnancy required a d&c, I personally chose to wait one full cycle. Now we are ntnp until April, when we will ttc using opk's again.

Thanks Dill and Kozmickitten. Sorry to hear about two miscarriages in such a short time frame kozmickitten, its so cruel! Hope you have a sticky baby very soon x
