Hi ladies me and my hubby have been ttc for a little over a year now. My periods have always been normal my whole life and about 3 mnths ago they became abnormal where I only bleed one day and then just spot here n there. I went to my dr and she did an US and I have a 3cm cyst and she put me on metformin to help my period regulate. My question is do any of you know of metformin helping with cyst, just simple cyst not PCOS.

Metformin helps to control insulin levels. If you just have cysts and no PCOS it's unlikely to help. It's actually unlikely to help unless you have insulin resistance as part of your PCOS. I have PCOS but not IR. My GP prescribed Metformin but my fertility specialist said it won't help because IR isn't what's preventing me from ovulating and therefore Metformin won't help.

What kind of doctor prescribed it to you? I'd recommend getting some more tests done because 1 cyst on your ovaries isn't enough to confirm PCOS.

Hi Sarah, I understand that metformin is for diabetic use I used to be a diabetes educator. My OB GYN dr gave me the rx to help regulate my period and no she did not say I had PCOS, it was just one cyst. I was just wondering if any of you havery had trouble ttc even with metformin.

I do have IR PCOS and metformin did not help me to get pregnant or start ovulating.

Like Sarah mentioned it sounds unlikely to help you in your case. I would definitely ask for additional hormone testing to find out if something is off balance. Also get your insulin levels checked if they are normal than metformin would be useless for ttc.
