My 5 and a half month old baby girl is having trouble with her milk at the moment.

Currently everytime she has a formula milk feed it literally comes straight out the other end. If she rests midway through her feed I change her then when she starts feeding again it happens again and it's another nappy change needed. It's bright yellow cottage cheesey/Korma poo. sorry to describe.

In March she had what seemed to be a 6 week long tummy bug, the doctor tested her stool and there was nothing wrong with it. We put it down to a change in milk as she had previously been suffering with bad colic and was on colic milk so we had changed her back to Cow and gate huingry milk. We changed her milk to Hipp Organic hungry as it seemed to have slightly less lactose in it and she has been fine and her stools returned to normal. However for the past 3 weeks she has what seems to be another bug that I described above.

I'm wondering if this could be a milk intolerance rather than a bug? I don't feel like I will get an answer from the doctor or HV as they were useless with the colic and the tests were negative for a bug last time. The HV patronises me and fobs me off and made me so angry with the lack of support about the colic. One doctor said she didn't know much about Colic and told me to ask the HV so shows what use they are.

I'm considering trying her on the SMA lactose free but scared of swapping and changing her milk too often.

Anyone have any similar experience and what did you do.

Thanks

Someone else may give you a better answer or correct me if I am wrong but I do believe after a tummy bug that some children can develop temporary lactose intolerance so maybe try the SMA lactose free for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference then try normal formula again after that, if it makes no difference then try docs again and ask for a trial of hypoallergenic milk such as nutramigen.
Hope this helps xx
